The Unofficial TFW2005 5th Annual Best Comic Stories of 2009!

    Rules:
    1. Voting will run from January 13th, 2010 to January 27th, 2010
    2. Please select your favourite story arcs, mini-series or single issues/one shots that were released in 2009 - Try to list your top 3 (more is ok too), if not, whatever you can come up with works as well
    3. When voting, remember that the story must have concluded during 2009 - The story might start off strong but then go downhill in the last issue
    4. Please include the title of the story arc
    5. If you change your mind (after rereading the stories or someone mentions one you've forgotten about), please repost your picks. If you post multiple times, I will only count the last one
    6. Once the voting period ends, the most popular arcs will be awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd place

If you're having trouble remembering what stories came out in 2009, check out the Preview Archive and be sure to read the notes at the top about the links.

    (1) Green Lantern #43 - Part of the prologue to Blackest Night but an excellent, relatively self-contained issue focusing on Black Hand. There are a number of single issues from the GL title I was thinking of nominating, but this is the one that really stood out for me.

    (2) Green Lantern Corps: Emerald Eclipse - Just so much going on in these issues and the storyline kept getting better and better each month.

    (3) Green Lantern: Agent Orange - Entertaining and introduced Larfleeze, who's been one of my favorite new characters to come out of the GL mythos.

Honourable mention - GL: Rage of the Red Lanterns. Difficult choice between this and Agent Orange for my third choice. However, while I liked this story, I thought it kind of petered out at the end, introduced a couple of plot ideas that went nowhere (Reds trying to find the Blue homeworld, Reds trying to find Sinestro's daughter) and the Red Lanterns had very little presence afterwards.

    Anything GL works for me.
First arcs of G.I. Joe Origins and G.I.Joe Cobra were also spectacular.
Spotlight: Cliffjumper was amazing all around as a stand alone, best since Kup.

    I forgot about this.

So I'm amending my nominations to just
    1. GL Agent Orange
    2. GL #43

Guess I'll give this a few more days (until Jan 27) since there's no clear winner yet.

2 - Green Lantern: Agent Orange
2 - Green Lantern Corps: Emerald Eclipse
1 - Angel: Last Angel in Hell
    1 - The Boys: The Self-Preservation Society (Issues 31-34)
1 - Captain America Volume 5: The Burden of Dreams (Issues 31-36)
    1 - G.I. Joe: Origins (Issues #1-6)
1 - Green Lantern Volume 5: Rage of the Red Lanterns (Issues 35-38)
1 - Invincible Iron Man - Worlds Most Wanted
    1 - Planetary #27

The City of the Damned stories in Doctor Who Classics Issues 2-4.

If it's a recent story, then Doctor Who Ongoing: The Time Machination.

GI Joe Cobra II one shot. Not only was it an interesting concept for a comic book dealing with the Crimson Twins, it had an incredible quality of writing.

Yes, I am serious. At least you didn't call me Shirley.  The issue includes some of the best colorist work I've seen in years. That combined with the art makes it a visual treat and the story is a solid stand alone character piece that requires no other TF comics knowledge to enjoy. I was impressed all around with it.

And the Crimson Twins issue, if I had to pick just one out of the Cobra arc, it would be that one.

I don't think Spotlight:CF was even the best spotlight. If you want to give a TF issue some critical acclaim, why not Spotlight:Sideswipe? That painted E.J. work easily surpasses Cliffy in the art department.

Now yer talkin. And also Marvel: Eye of the Camera.
