So my friend and I were arguing over the song Black Betty. We both know Lynard's version came before Ram Jam's but do they sound the same? My friend downloaded it and the file name had Lynard Skynard, but it sounded like Ram Jam. I never heard Lynard's btw. Who's right?

If it sounded like Ram Jam, then it probably was.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's version is pronounced "Bam Ba Lam!"

There are tons of mislabeled MP3s floating around p2p networks. As stated, if it sounds like the Ram Jam one, it probably is, no matter what it says. Never trust random mp3s, the tags are often way off the mark

I've never even heard of a Skynyd version. I've heard it's actually an old slaves' song.

Now, I dare you to go listen to the Tom Jones version.

I'll say Ram Jam (as that is most likely) but can't know unless I hear it.

Ram Jam did the most "famous" version, and it is very often mislabeled as Lynyrd Skynyrd or Credence Clearwater Revival, neither of whom ever recorded a cover of Black Betty.

I like the spiderbait version best of all. I used to listen to it ALL THE TIME while playing Need For Speed Underground 2.
