What the hell happened? Everything since the move looks like it's gone. It's even got something about how "Sari, No Ones Home" just premeired.
The website has lost, like, 10-12 months of edits. None of the images are working and all the info seems to be from the transformers wikia.
I know the site went down for awhile because the software was being updated. Don't know much else beyond that.
Some GENIUS apparently thought it was a good idea to do a software upgrade without storing the backups somewhere SAFE. So not only did the system crash, it corrupted the BACKUPS as well. Yeah.
Ugh my sites were hosted by a company that worked in a similar fashion, where the host thought that keeping backups on the same server was a good idea. One server meltdown later, and my site 'rolled back' by 6 months to the last offsite backup. Three days later I was with a new host.
Jaysus. So, uh, is the site going to be OK? It'd suck majorly to see such a great community project get crippled by a housekeeping flub, especially one that many of us here (myself included) have spent a lot of time working on...
In the spirit of helping fellow fans out, I would respectfully request visitors to turn your browsers offline and go through your offline caches and save all the pages you've visited. Edit: Blackdrop reminded me that another option is to see if Google cached articles recently. I was hesitant to mention this since (essentially) that would be a lot of people doing the same thing possibly saving the same data, I didn't want to waste people's time since I was already imposing upon them :-/ It may help us restore a portion of pages back to the most recent versions. Thanks Seriously, I am ready to fucking go Christian Bale right now. Normally I would leap to the wiki's defense, but your comment is entirely justified.
A... are you serious? That's what happened? I just figured it hadn't been restored properly yet. Oh, dear Christ.
I'll do my best! *Salute* Where should we send these saved pages to? EDIT: Crap, Firefox is just complaining about being offline when I'm trying to visit a lot of these pages. Anyone know a way around that and restor- WAIT. Would Wayback help at all, TFWiki folks?
If you have multiple Firefox browser windows open, you have to make sure ALL of them are offline (bad design, really) before you can visit your cache. However, if you've done this and it still won't load, there's a good chance Firefox decided to wipe that part of the cache. I have no idea where we should send these to myself. I was just saving them and waiting for somebody to tell me later. Thanks guys. FUCK - Firefox crashed AND TOOK MY ENTIRE CACHE WITH IT. Hey guys, if you listen to Christian Bale, it works for this situation perfectly with regards to the guy doing the backups. It also eases the pain. Slightly.
