    Hi all,

Got the 'Ultimate Edition' of TF:TM (1986) in the post today, and it came with a couple of surprises! :D

First up, it's packaged in a tin with all-new artwork, which I wasn't expecting! Very nice metallic finish on the art too.

Inside the tin is a familiar DVD case with even more familiar artwork. :)

The new artwork is replicated on the booklet, and both discs.

Another bonus was the inclusion of three cards showing cover artwork both old and new:

I'm watching it as I write this, and wow! :D  The remaster quality is *amazing*, I love it. The sound is much clearer too. It's also worth noting that, for a Region 2 release, this lacks the Star Wars-style 'crawl' that previous UK cinema and home releases have had, instead having the Superman-esque cast credits seen in other countries.

Sorry about the pic quality but I was in something of a rush as I couldn't wait to watch this. :D

The art cards are exclusive to PLAY.COM I think.

They advertised this as being the case, though they were in the tin which was shrink-wrapped. If anyone else picks this up elsewhere, can they let us know?

I got the US 20th edition a while back, are there any different special features on this one that would warrant me picking it up too?

    I got the set today

    The Good -

I like the metal case packaging and the original movie cover on the interior cover.

The comparison of UK and US version changes is a nice touch

    The bad -

This is pretty much a badly done re-hash of the Sony DVD from last year. Virually all the extras from the Sony set are on this one but missing some of the better ones such as the photo gallery and the US version of the preview trailer

The menus look like they were put together in 5 minutes!

I haven't yet listened to the full commentary but most of it again seems to be a re-hash of what we said on the Sony version, but as we are both talking about the same film, of course we will say the same things

A shame, its nicely presented but offers nothing new over the superior Sony edition

    Disc 1:

Remastered movie with 5.1 audio - commentary by Chris McFeely
Alternate UK/US scenes (opening credits, end credits, Spike's expletive)
    US and Japanese theatrical trailer
US TV spots (a lot of them!)
    Final title check test
Cinex check - colour and exposure test
    Character bios
    New animated movie trailer

    Disc 2:

    Original 4:3 movie
    Interview with Flint Dille
Peter Cullen Q&A session (watching it now, looks like it was filmed at BotCon or something similar)
    Scramble City
    TFTM2007 trailers
    Animated storyboards
DVD-ROM material - script and 5.1 audio breakdown

Also, there's an exclusive booklet written by Chris McFeely - and our very own Nevermore gets a credit in it. :)

EDIT: Gah! I can't geet the TFTM2007 trailers on Disc 2 to work for some reason. :(  Will try them on the other player later...

I don't know, this one has the full audio to Scramble City with subtitles, doesn't it? I'd say that's an addition. Pity it loses the commentary track, but that's that.

Anyhow, it looks nice and I could stand to get another Movie DVD. Perhaps I'll get this one.

Hold on, can I ask a question, disc one features the movie, what aspect ratio is it? I'm going to assume its 16:9?

And what exactly is the 'original' 4:3 version on disc 2? Is it the Reconstructed version, where the top and bottom has been added on, or is it the pan and scan of the widescreen? Cuz if it the latter I may have to pass. Maybe.

There's a commentary on Scramble City on this set too, but it's not been listed on most things outside of the disc menu itself.

w00t frontpaged. The remaster is quite lovely indeed. :D  Shows up a lot of background detail I never noticed before.

Oh, and the commentary on Scramble City is there, as an option - as Chris F says, you only discover that on the menu itself.

    Yes, 16:9 anamorphic. :)

Pass! Not had a chance to watch that version yet. I'll be able to provide an answer later on though.

Cool, 16:9 is good, but I also want the whole reconstructed thing as well.

Yah boo. I mentioned my DVD set being posted in another thread a few days ago, but nobody listened to me!;)

I still prefer the R2 "reconsructed" version.
