Hey guys, here are pics of my latest (and probably last for some time) custom - a premium leader class optimus prime!

at first i really disliked the leader class mold, but this custom was inspired by that nice gallery at toysdaily.com showing the takara premium prime. it made me say, "hey, this mold actually does have potential:p " now.. its my favorite from among my customs :D

this custom has been in the works for the past 2 or 3 months. i could barely find time to finish him because of school.

anyway, here are the pics.. i hope you like 'em!

This is awesome. You get me inspired to do my own Leader Class OP. Only it's not a Premium Class. I'll work it out and post it later on when he's ready but that will take a while. I have two questions: 1; How did you do the flames on his inner-legs and on his upper arms. 2; What collours did you use and wich brand are they and are they acrylics or enamels. Please respond to this. I already thank you for your answers.

    Greetings from The Netherlands/Holland.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you like it :)

I hand painted the flames using a really small brush. I mainly used Tamiya and Gunze Sangyo/Mr. Hobby acrylic paints. The red I used is Gunze/Mr. Hobby Shine Red, while I used Tamiya royal blue for the blue parts, it's either x-3 or x-4. These paints don't match the plastic color dead on, but they're pretty close and they were what I had on hand so I stuck with them:)

You're very welcome. Good luck with your project! :)

Awesome work; love the attention to details. I've spent nearly a year looking at the one I bought to repaint, and you've just inspired me to get back to work ;) . But if you truly want him to be movie accurate, swap the forearms--they got put on backwards at the factory.

Thank you for your answers. I'll let you know when he's ready but it's gonna take some. Maybe I'll post a WIP. I'm thinking about it to do that.
PS: I forgot to ask. The silvercolloured parts, wich collour did you use for that and wich brand. Allready thanks for that. Also thanks for welcome me on this board.

    Again greetings from The Netherlands/Holland

Thanks for the love guys! :)

Thanks! :)  the group shot is actually just an update of some earlier autobot group pics in which i used robovision prime.

I actually swapped them already. It's funny how they didn't fix this even for the premium version. Good luck with your OP:D

The silver parts (on the robot) were basecoated with black automotive paint then drybrushed with tamiya acrylic gun metal, metallic grey, flat aluminum, and chrome silver on different areas to achieve different shades of silver.

mampy, I love your work, and I'm glad to see that you made the time for this piece. You've really done a nice job with Prime here. The only suggestions I have would be to make the smokestack mod that frenzy_rumble illustrated and also to get the upgrade label set from reprolabels for the missing flames in alt mode.

Other than that, I really wished you hadn't posted this piece. Now I REALLY REALLY want a Premium Prime! Curses to you mampy! CURSES!!! :lol

Great work, and I wish you all the best this year as you return to your studies! :thumb

Thank you for your answer. I'll keep the way you did the silvercolloured parts in mind for my own OP. Yours looks great.

Thanks SQ! I actually did change the smokestacks. I used the body of some cheap ballpens (couldn't find f_r's makeup brushes) and then painted them with the same chrome automotive paint that i used on the other 'chrome parts'. The chrome paint isn't so impressive, but it was all that was available to me here :D

I also wish that reprolabels were more available locally. They would really have helped out my Ratchet too.

Haha I got that same feeling when I saw Dick Po's gallery of the Takara Premium Prime. Now maybe I'm getting even by passing it on to others.:lol

I hope I can get this up on the gallery soon. heheh

    Thanks guys!:)

Coming from you, one of my favorite painters, that is a real compliment.

My brother actually has bought most of the movie Decepticons already. We've repainted his barricade, and I'd do the others but unfortunately I really don't have the time. :p

It's also quite unfortunate that the Decepticons suffer from really bad scaling with one another. Scorponok seems to be bigger than Bonecrusher who is also just as big as Barricade... Doesn't make for a very good group shot :lol

Practice first on some cheap KOs... it's not so hard. It's quite rewarding once you get the hang of it. :)

I'm glad you like it though! Some people have actually PMed me if this piece was available for sale (or if they could commission me to make another one).
