this idea is interesting...but can't you get brushes smaller than 1 inch wide
    ?

While I really admire and envy your imagination, you need to take some advice about execution with your painting. There's more than enough resources here to help you with that.

Ok everyone. I wanted to make these guys as messy as possible due to their back stories, but i've realized what has been happening to my non-Mentalcons pieces. What type of brush sizes do you recommend/

Sweetness. I use Testors paint brushes, but I think their others but I don't know the companies names or anything so I hope that helps if any. Man, I agree with some of the Radicons about the paint job and stuff. There here to help and its hard that some constructive criticism is sometimes harse, but they do care about your creative talents.

I typically airbrush most of my colors, but you can get a similar effect using Krylon Fusion, which is made for plastic. Check your local walmart or Michael's craft store for these. As for brush sizes, I use brushes as small as 10/0, 5/0, 1/16", and others. You can pick those up at michael's crafts also. I suggest going to Michaels craft store, and grabbing some brushes and spray paint.

Just to add to f_r's feedback. If you're going to start using spray paints, look up proper painting techniques.

Its easy to assume that you'd hold down the spray nozzle until the piece you're painting is completly covered but that can lead to dripping and thick inconsistant paint.

Spray painting is not always as easy it sounds. But you can ruin a project in a second if your not careful.

Another tip would be masking. A lot of your projects have lines in them. Proper masking using masking or painters tape, will make a world of difference in your projects. Spray the stripes in light coats to avoid dripping and bleeding. Masking also helps when painting around windsheilds, windows, headlights and tail lights.

Oh and don't forget the primer! This will help paint adhere to a surface. I even use primer when using fusion.

Be careful. Use junkers to practice. Take your time. Dont rush painting, because paint can be a pain to clean up on a project.
Plan ahead, this can ease the process.

But most importantly: ASK QUESTIONS. Those of us who do this frequently are more than willing to help.
