My guess is you are in California, or somewhere further away and chose priority mail. The weight hasn't changed on the piece, so the only adjustment would be if you preordered last year prior to the rate hike by USPS. Priority mail is always a higher price over 2 pounds, so you are paying a premium for their service...which has increased every year, for a decade as far as I know.

I know I've seen orders well under that price, including other items across the US with FedEx ground.
