InB4 Nerd rage comes in shouting "LAZY TAKARA NOT MAKING NEW MOLD FOR SMOKESCREEN WAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!"

Joking aside shame he's not a new mold but if they're able to make him totally different from Knockout I'm game for him. Maybe the retooling's only for takara and the Hasbro version has a new mold that's more show accurate for him.

 

Good to know. I have him on preorder at BBTS. Hopefully they make the necessary mold changes (doors moved from the arms to the back to form wings), and that the 5mm ports aren't too overly intrusive to both alt/bot modes. His AM partner will probably be one that forms his arm cannon, or possibly the Phase Shifter relic.

 

Would I have liked to see a new mold for Smokescreen? Yes, but honestly, as long as the head is good, and Hasbro eventually releases a version of their own, I'll be ok. If they never release Ironhide over here, I would still like to see Smokescreen. He's an on-screen character, so there's no reason for Hasbro not to. Then again, even an off-screen Ironhide figure makes more sense than Kup, so.... 

 

Shoot BBTS is sold out. I really wanted this figure.

 

Is it really a shock that he's a KO redeco? He is very clearly based off KO in the show's model.

 

I guess, but Smokescreen's got door wings. They're just gonna ignore that aspect of his design for the toy?

 

Hopefully the retooling will be on par with the Jet Vehicon's retooling of the RID Vehicon. I know the two vehicons aren't too different but they're able to still give out different feels. I'm hoping this will be the same with Smokescreen.

 

Yeah, with his... Hood chest, and... Hood chest...

 

Could always change a couple of esthetic things (face/doors/etc), but keep the main engineering the same, sort of like the Jet Vehicon.

Personally, I'm in agreement with the Jet Vehicon folks; hopefully Smokescreen receives some mold updates that will distinguish him from Knock Out. Takara is usually good about sticking to show accuracy, so I'm optimistic that this isn't simply a straight repaint with just a new head and AM partner (like Swerve is).

 

I've been saying this since we first saw him. He's a retool of Knockout. Even his head is Knockout-y..

 

What Takara does has no bearing on what Hasbro does, and considering Smokescreen is a main character, I'm certain he has his own mould in the works.

In the event that he doesn't, though, I'd be...mostly happy with a heavy retool/reshell of Knock Out, I guess.

 

Breakdown was a main character, and he's not getting a US release.
