I wasn't totally in love with my head design, so I did some refinements to the face markings, brow, head shape, and neck. I decided that I'm going to have the top band of his neck collar wrap around behind his head and come up over the top to form that Widow's Peak of his.

To me this look has all the right hints of his TFA look. I'm really happy with it and hope to start sculpting tomorrow afternoon.

After watching some tutorials on sculpting in Fusion 360, I learned that profile views are extremely helpful to have when doing it. So, today I did a front and side view in addition to roughly modelling the part of the hood that the head plugs into.

I hope to have enough space to fit three ball joints into this for some good articulation. We'll see when I start the sculpting.

This custom is proof that god exists and is extremely generous.

I'm not saying you're wrong if you disagree with me but I am saying if you disagree with me you're a communist and most likely support genocide.

It took all damned day, but the head is done. The neck should be tremendously easier to complete.

The hood was a different kind of nightmare to put together, but a great learning experience. It just needs some spikes, detailing and joints, and that'll do it. I really hope to have everything ready to send for printing this week.

    This is awesome.

@WEEGEE 's sexually awkward commentary puts a smile on my face so I gave him like number 1000 and 1001.

This post has made you 100,000,000,00% more attractive you will now have 0 problems attaining a mate and any perceived problems are just you not putting your back into it.

I WEEGEE love sexually @NOCV s sexually attractive project/sex toy. Seeing how well sculpted the head was and how closely it blends the prime/animated aesthetics despite being fan made, I can safely say that I will be purchasing two of these to paint in animated and AOE colors and you can most definitely be assured I will be doing it with no clothes on.

I still think it'd look better with something approximating a nose. Not even an actual nose, just a raised detail or indent so his face didn't look so... odd. The actual model though? Stunning. I love the shape of the big chin and angle of the brow. Gives him a tonne of personality beyond the typical flat faces of Prime. There's just so much deffinition and chislled shape to it. Yet at the same time it really makes the noseless super smooth front stick out to me.

Thanks so much for that. It's really what I have been aiming for with this project, and I'm thrilled to see it noticed. I had my doubts about being on the right track until my son saw the face and asked how I was able to copy Dreadwing's eyes like that, but I'm feeling good about it now.
Thanks again for raising that point. I appreciate everyone's input on this because you guys are gonna see things that I might not because I'm too in love with just how well this is turning out for having never done it before, so don't be afraid to suggest or critique.

I've taken a good look at all of the TFP heads and faces, and I just can't give Lockdown a nose like most of them get from their helmets surrounding their faces. However, when I do my detailing pass on the sculpt to give it a little more fidelity and texture, I'll be taking a lot of inspiration from Bulkhead. His face is probably the most exposed TFP face, and you can see the arrangement of his panel lines provides a representation of a nose:

    Again, thanks so much!
This thing is so much fun to look at from all different angles. Fusion's got a great Android companion app that allows you to view but not alter your projects. I probably spent a good twenty minutes oohing and ahhing over it last night, as I spun and flipped it around:
    Screenshot_2017-08-13-11-52-04.png

Outside of learning the software over the last few months, the biggest challenge has probably been translating a 2d design on paper into a 3d design for production. I purposely saved his head for designing last because it was the part I wanted to do the most, and it was the part I knew would be the most difficult.

All of his other parts have been shapes I've drawn and cut out of blocks, but his head is nothing but curves and slopes. This made it a lot more challenging to get features like the breaks in the neck of and the top of his helmet/hood and facial markings to look right from all angles.

Hopefully tonight I'll have time to add the spikes. I think they'll be on the easy side, which means they'll probably end up a big pain in the butt to get right.

Sure. I started with this one, which covers all of the basics with a simple demo project that you can follow along with. For the head I watched a series of videos on their YouTube that takes you through the process of making a motorcycle helmet. Their channel has a whole bunch of great videos that show you how to do things.

I haven't had time to devote to modelling, but I did get a chance to sketch out the panel lines for the face.

I have been following this thread with much interest and enjoying every minute of it. But if I may offer some constructive criticism, something has seemed off with your more recent updates. I couldn't put my finger on it until you added in the panel-lining to his face.

Let me be clear when I say that the work you've done so far is fantastic. There is no doubt in my mind that it's an awesome look for Lockdown. But you said you set out on this project with the intent to make an Aligned universe Lockdown, and between your updates on 08/09 and 08/11, it's lost that feel. I think the main culprit(s) of this issue are the brow and sunken orbitals you sculpted for his face when you went 3D. While it is a nice touch, it is a design aesthetic that, to this point, has not been employed in any of the aligned designs. This point is further emphasized by the Starscream and Bulkhead images above. Their brows are nothing more than a thin layer of plating above the "face" that shift to better denote emotions. And the sunken orbitals, while nice, make the paneling work you did around his eyes feel too busy. I know it may seem bland to remove those features, but I feel that not only will you be closer to matching that Prime feeling, but it will be a less stressful clean-up job on the head once it has been printed, IMO.
