Sweet. I was wondering how that worked. Do you remember what length of string you used? (Or does it even matter?) Thanks!

I just used common black thread. It will hold more weight then the toy can without toppling over.

I just realized you said length not strength. LOL!

I really just started winding. I didn't want to fill the spool up and risk an knotted mess. SO I went until I thought I could reach the shelf below. I was off a couple of inches but I can lower the boom and get tho the lower shelf.

So very cool! Funny, it took me a couple of pics to make out what you'd done there. Once I saw that you'd strung up your Dr Crank and were raising that tank to the top shelf....a calm hush came over the crowd. :rock

so does it wind up nice and smooth?...no snags/hang-ups along the way?...like rolling off the wheels or spool?

    how full is the spool?

It does hang and snag from time to time if there is nothing on the hook. The thread likes to catch on the seem of the plastic on the boom. Not a big deal because by the time you reach for it, it lets go and is descending the platform nicely. The more weight on it the less it will snag. Rolling it up is no issue what so ever. The spool is not very full but enough to cover the gray plastic and some.

That's fantastic looking! I really like the Arc background you've got there.

In the cool pic thread you mentioned wanting energon cubes so in case you missed my reply I'll repeat my gentle nudging to my sig.

    As I see it:

    1. Tie one end of the string to the hole in the winch.
    2. Run the string along the length of the crane, stringing through the slots.
    3. Loop the string over one sleeve at the end of the crane, and down and around a sleeve on the hook.
    4. Run the string back up and around the second sleeve on the crane, and back down again to the second sleeve on the hook.
    5. Finally, run the string back up and tie it to the slot on the underside of the end of the crane.

You'll want to leave a lot of extra string in the winch for winding and extending the crane.

I'm planning on trying this with metallic silver cord and 1mm lead-free solder. Not sure it's for play, but I do want to imitate the steel cable look.

It was on here at one point on one of the threads. It was something I printed out on cardstock and built. Another member took the time to work it all up and did a Nemesis version. I don't think he ever completed the computer portion for the Nemesis but there are backgrounds.

Oh I got them. I am reworking them in Illustrator and will be making some tonight.

Another member had asked me about it in a PM and I will make a small video showing the path of the thread. Its not hard but left and right gets confusing depending on if your looking from the front or the back.

Pretty much the way its done. I want to see pics of your when your done with it.
