I've been trying to throw together an original Kup build for a while now, but I have to give a shout out to Frenzy_Rumble for putting the TFA Kup bug in my ear (Shinobitron also has a really awesome one!).
Obviously this is mostly a Deluxe Prime. The arms are from the repainted Jazz. Luckily the hinges in the feet came with a big gap right where I needed to put the wheels, so I just had to do a little carving. There don't seem to be any wheels the right size or thickness around, so I finally busted out the hole saw drill bits that I found at the flea market last summer and cut them out of PVC foamboard. The way they stick out gave me the idea to give Kup a set of big butt-stomping cowboy boots. It seemed fitting since The old dog has always had a bit of a cowboy vibe going on. The heels are Prime's kneecaps.
My concept here is that TFA Kup is sort of the Autobot's version of a Ranger patrolling wilds of the galaxy. Technically, he's under the Elite Guard's jurisdiction, but they leave him alone because he gets the job done, and because he's really grumpy. If he was to have a deputy, I imagine it would be Hound, but I'm not sure what I would make him from yet. (There's no official TFA Hound design, is there?)
The new alt mode it mostly just a mis-transformation plus the new arms.
Thanks for looking! All comments and crits are welcome.

Sweet. I love the new alt mode. Just one question, does the sheild/roof still work in vehicle mode? Coz i imagine it would help hide those arms.

If you can "box" up the arms, you might be able to have them make a nice blend with the walls better and conceal it a bit. Might make him look less scrawny. Kup's old, but he's not weak.

What are your thoughts about Head sculpts? I am looking for a good solution for that short of sculpting one myself (which I have no experience)

Thanks! The roof/ shield no longer attaches as it was intended to, but I am considering it as the basis of the new roof. Either way, the arms will be beefed up/ boxed out at least a little.
On the head sculpt front, I'll be sure to post lots of pics of what I'm doing, so you can see how I do it. I always try to build on what's already there. In this case I think I'm going to see if I can't sculpt around the existing eyes so that the light pipe still works. My material of choice is epoxy putty. The more expensive brand is Apoxie Sculpt, but for smaller, quicker jobs you can get great stuff right in the hardware store. There's a wood repair putty called Quikwood that's superb for detail work. I'm making new heels for Kup here with a pipe repair putty called Faststeel. It's really strong and sets in about ten minutes so you can build simple structures quickly. Quikwood sets in about twenty minutes so you can work in more detail and Apoxie Sculpt takes over an hour to set up, so you can do really detailed work. Of course there's always Mighty Putty, which you can get almost everywhere. It sets in about ten minutes. It's great for filling space and making simple shapes, but it's really tricky to work details into.

Looking great so far, Dave! I do the same--building onto existing heads, faces, etc. (you can alter and change one head into something completely different with some styrene and putty). Can't wait to see more! Just when I think you can't top your other Kup 'bashes, you come along with this unique/original custom.

Also, I really like your characterization idea for Kup. He'd really fit in well with the rest of the cast, I think.

Oh, and your work looks great thus far. Looking forward to seeing your progression. :)

I LOVE the concept and execution of the cowboy boots design as well as the back-story you created behind it. What are your plans for the arms? Do you plan to add some panels or something to cover them?

Id say at this rate you could do something to Swindle for Hound.

Thanks everybody! Such a nice response for such an early WIP! My first thought was not to make a TFA Kup, but I kept swapping in TFA parts and before long I had a whole new broom. I'm still keeping my eyes open for parts to go into a "Spotlight" Kup. I really love that design. And I want an excuse to sculpt that crazy Nick Roche Kup face.
Swindle does make a nice Hound, but I'm going to keep with the space car vibe, since these guys are space cops. I might even try another take on the Prime mold, so they look like they're from the same unit, or somesuch. I bought Prime to just use his upper body, but little did I know that his ankles were perfect to double as an axle. I've wanted to work that in to a Kup for ages.
    Thanks again everyone.

Heres's a little update on the boots. I ditched the knees for heels because they didn't have exactly the profile that I wanted. I replaced them with faststeel. I used it for it's strength and because it sets quickly. I also built up the toes of the boots to diminish the tippy toe look that he had. Looking at it, I realized how many materials went into just the feet, so I've included a pic with them all labeled. The slots in the legs were cut with a small saw and cleaned up with an excto knife.
I made the the toes by gluing the styrene panels to either siede of the feet and filling the space in between with Quikwood. Once in place everything was trimmed with the exacto and sanded with 150 grit sand paper and then smoothed with 300 grit.
On a side note- for cutting plastic, be sure to use a saw that is labeled for wood and/or plastic, not metal. You'll occasionally need the metal one for sawing through pins and such, but a wood toothed saw will rip through plastic very nicely.

Cool. When did that design crop up? I did a search to see if there was an official design when I started this one and came up with nothing.
This project is on indefinite hold, in case anyone was wondering. The upper legs and crotch ended up in an articulated Scoruge that I was working on. He's on hold too. I know I'm terrible.
