We see both in both series that Optimus dies and comes back. But which death is more brutal, gruesome? For the older Transformers fans that saw the 86 Movie back then, did you have the same feeling and impact when Prime died in ROTF? And how about the newer fans did Optimus death had an impact on them?

I would have to say that the ROTF death was alot more brutel, but the TFTM one was a bit more sad because in ROTF, you knew that Prime combined with Jetifre. So it really wasn't all that sad.

For the most Gruesome I would say ROTF but I hated the battle that led up to it.

Well RotF was definitely more brutal. It was no where near as impactful though. Brutality for brutality sake is just violence porn. The 86 movie had an epic show down between two equal opponents. RotF was just violence porn.

ROTF was physically brutal, but the 86 movie death was far more brutal emotionally. Everyone knew he'd come back near the end of the movie, and as soon as he died all the characters went gun-ho on bringing him back just so he could take out The Fallen, oppose to 86 where kids were mind blown and the Autobots were actually in deep shit.

ROTF was the more dire, urgent one, but the '86 one definitely pulled more weight to it.

Tough call. G1 Prime got injured because of Hot Rod's stupidity and movie Prime got cheapshotted.

Killing Prime in '86 was novel. Killing Prime in RoTF was a cliche. Still, if we're only talking brutality, then the latter wins. If we're talking about anything else, '86.

I hate seeing Megatron, Starscream and a giant Decepticon getting their asses kicked by Optimus alone.

The forest battle just proves how much of a badass Optimus really is. The main reason being because he was in a wide-open area, without having to worry about falling on/stepping on any humans. Of course there was Sam but he was running and trying to hide at the same time.

ROTF was the most physically brutal cand gruesome but TF:TM was more emotional. I was part of the audiance that didn't know he was going to combine with Jetfire in ROTF but I knew he was going to be revived because the plot depended on it.
Persoanlly I think they should of had the plot focus on stopping the Decepticons in vain. Maybe have Sam find the Matrix because he thinks its the only thing that can be the Fallen. Then he'll "die again and the Primes will tell him "Oh by the way, you can revive Optimus with this thing."

Personally I do not feel sad when I watch the TF:TM movie death mainly because I know the real reason why he died. To sell Rodimus Prime toys.

86 movie was much more traumatizing as a child, and overall, even watching as an adult, you have to remember it was the first time they drastically offed a main character, which no one was expecting. (Give it up, you DIDN'T see it coming). Opposed to ROTF, where at this point, in multiple continuities, Prime has died whenever they need a story idea, so no matter how they killed him off, it wouldn't have had the same impact, because as fans, we kinda expect Prime to die in every continuity. It would have had more impact if he'd stayed dead, but that's a different story.

If we're voting on "most brutal", I'd definitely say ROTF (and that's how I voted).

If we're voting for the death that had the most impact - either on me personally or on the fictional narrative - clearly it is the 1986 one.

G1 Prime's death because it was a one on one between two rivals. Two years of battling came to a head as it was a battle to the death. RotF was just circumstance. No real build up. The bad guys were after Sam, and Prime was just trying to save him. It was a good fight scene, but not nearly as epic. RotF Prime only died to be a plot device to develop Sam's character. Unlike the '86 movie, it wasn't about Prime at all.

It's probably unfair to compare a cartoon to a live action movie in terms of gruesome/brutal.

That said, the Bayformer death was ridiculous. I laughed. At least the 86' cartoon attempted to evoke (and succeeded in my case) some sort of emotion.

ROTF was more brutal. 1986 movie one was more emotionally affecting.
