Okay, I'm on the fence here. I definitely want a non-downloaded version of Prime to watch. I do not have a Blu-Ray player, but I might have one within the year. Frankly, DVD quality footage is okay with me. But one thing I'm a big nerd about is extra features. I have not yet been able to find a definitive list of features that are exclusive to the Blu-Ray version. I'm poor, and I'd rather not shell out the extra dough for the more expensive Blu-Ray discs (as well as a player), but I'd be willing to do it if there was a significant lack of features on the DVD version.

So, what bonus features are on the DVD? What features are on the Blu-Ray? Should I save money or is it going to be worth it to splurge? Help me out!

Blu Ray. No doubt. Totally, totally worth it.

I've seen Darkness Rising on DVD, and Blu Ray quality blows it away.

I haven't made it to the bonus material yet... but I will say that the bluray video quality amazed me. I watched the episodes from my HD DVR (and also HQ downloads) and they don't compare to the bluray quality. It was like watching a new episode with how nice the picture was.

Extra bonus material or not - that is enough to convince me.

I'm going to get the Blu-Ray copy eventually ... and then proceed to buy a Blu-Ray player.

Okay, I understand the video quality is amazing. But instead of spending $20, I'll have to spend over $100 ($40 for the season, plus $60+ for a player). If you guys really think that's worth it, I'll have to wait til my birthday in July to justify indulging myself so much. I got a kid, a wife, and two dogs to feed.

Anybody know where I can get a Blu-Ray player cheap?

    Almost everywhere now. Check Wal-Mart.

And, yeah. Bluray. Nowhere is the different between the two seen best, than with CGI.

I got the bluray (I got a PS3 that can play it) but I don't have a TV to take advantage of the HQ...but I'll see if I can hook my PS3 to my comp monitor which can do HD. Or buy a bluray player for my comp, heh. Then I can take GLORIOUS screenshots.

I only have one BluRay player but I want to be able to watch this on my other TVs also. I think I will be going with the DVD since it can be played on either type of machine. I haven't had an HDTV very long yet. Planning on getting it tonight after work, so I guess the price will also factor in.

They have the same features, but the Blu-Ray includes the prequel graphic novel from IDW.

I've read the Blu-ray PQ is flawed, lots of artifacts and banding.

Suprised to read that actaully as CGI is usually the easiest to get right in HD.

    1. You have to take those PQ complaints with an extreme grain of salt. Those review guys are there to spot the flaws that literally 95% of everyone else would never notice if they weren't told what to look for.

    2. No matter how many supposed PQ issues there might be, the BR still blows away the DVD just by technological default.

Bottom line is that anyone thinking about getting the DVD might as well just go download the .avi torrents instead and save themselves the money... because the quality will be about the same.

Incepticon is 100% correct. I had read the reviews of the blu-ray set prior to its release and could have cared less about the concerns they raised about picture quality. Whatever these issues are, I can't spot them - to me, the show has never EVER looked this good. Blu Ray is the format this show should be viewed in. Get the Blu-Ray, don't think twice about it.

First, let me say Blu-ray is all I buy now because 1) I have the setup and 2) I truly enjoy that it is better looking.

I guess I'm just disappointed that a CGI like this isn't as good as it could be - there's really no good reason why the set should have banding and artifacts. And yes, I CAN tell banding in my content.

Either way, I'm just griping because if I do grab the discs it will be the Blu-ray set.
