I've yet to read any of these new comics, is the story any good? The art work looks great (except for all the bots having pretty much the same face) And Jetfire looks pretty SICK!! I would love a toy with that design, it would be bad @$$.
I'm not being funny but i would have thought to the majority of longtime transfans, that is clearly Jetfire. I dont see how it could be anything else! It looks just like him just with an update. The same way the classics/stormbringer design was different but instantly recognisable. And for the new transformer fans, you get a little box labelling him. Plus if you read the previous issue, he is one of the bots leaving with hotrod and how many other autobots are huge, white and look like that?
This Jetfire design has as much in common with Transtech Starscream as it does Jetfire as he was in this continuity so without the nametags identifying who he is, there's bound to be some confusion as to who exactly he's meant to be. If it wasn't for the general headshape (which now even lacks the 'ears' he's had since the skyfire animation model) and a few patches of red and white on his primarily gray body, he could quite easily be an entirely new character.
i'll give you that one thats he's missing his ears/antenna but the rest of him to me still screams 2010 jetfire/skyfire
I'm so glad I'm a proud owner of that Classics Jetfire. One of my favorite all time toys. I can't imagine what he must be worth now. I wish Don went with that design.
Wow, almost 3 issues and they still haven't showed Hot Rod alt mode. I'm just dying to know what is it?
Can't say I'm fond of Jetfire's new look. He just looks like a random anime robot to me now and over-detailed to boot. The whole strip is like a competition to get as many lines and details onto everything as possible. Well, except for backgrounds. Somewhat like Huffer though. Kinda surprised Don didn't break up the truck cab on his back like he's done with everything else. The thing was the G1 faces did have more variety of shapes than these new ones. Bumblebee's flat face with the bevel edges, Hound's flat square one, Megatron's with the muzzle lines, ones with cheek lines coming down off the middle of the eyes, ones with cheek lines off the edges of the eyes. Some different eye and chin shapes/details too. Sure there's not a huge variety to G1 faces and they rely on the helmet shapes and colours as well, but there's more facial variety to them than these new ones. These just distract too much for me. With the old faces you can read an emotion right away and it all flows, but with the new ones they kinda stand out and stop things dead as you have to rely more on the dialogue to try and get what they're feeling. On some panels it's like the artwork is just there because it has to be and not actually adding anything to the dialogue.
The G1 cartoon did the same thing. Characters would just show up. It was accepted in the cartoon, so why shouldn't it be accepted for the comic? Besides, the Autobots do have a way to transport themselves to and from Earth (although that source is now running low on Energon). There's a little more variety towards the end of the issue, with Hoist (spot on with his ROTF toy), Beachcomber, and Tracks (same similar face, just red).
Not quite. He's still armored, but with a few redesigns. However, you can automatically tell it's Ultra Magnus.
I still cant get on with the new artistic style Don has gone with, its just so at odds with everything that came before I have trouble believing its even the same comic. It's such a turn off Ive stopped buying the comic, not for solely due to the art (poor distribution in the UK, too many spin off titles, confusing continuity etc) but it was certainly the straw that broke the camels back.
