Ummm, how come my Transformers DVD looks just as good as my Spiderman Blue ray disk? This is kind of pissing me off. I was expecting my Spiderman movie to be leaps and bounds ahead of my TF DVD as far as image quality. Have any of you other PS3 owners noticed this? I don't feel to bad now for not purchasing a HD-DVD player mainly for this movie.

I think it depends on the transfer. I have seen quite a few movies on blu-ray now and most you can really tell the difference (especially when viewed side by side with their SD counterparts) - however a couple of movies have been meh!

I never rated spidermans SFX - so I can kinda understand transformers in SD looking as good as...

Take a look at these comparrisons - I have done something similar with AvP and the difference is quite pronounced.

The TF DVD is upconverted to better quality but I'm not sure why it would be as good as the Spider-man 3 BluRay.

What resolution TV are you wathcing it on?

And just so you know, PS3 was rated the top high defination movie player of any format by CNet. So you're claim that Spiderman 3 isn't up to par because of the PS3 holds about as much watter as a pair of fisnets.

Do you have an HDTV or Plasma? You can't make such a claim without saying what specs you have or without giving any other info. For example i'm sure if you run both on a 15in TV purchased over 10 years ago, they'd both look the same. Hell VHS would probably look the same.

You'll only be getting the 1080P resolution blu-ray can use if your TV supports that resolution, AND you're using an HDMI cable. The ps3 is not at fault for the hdmi requirement, nor is sony in general.

I don't know what your talking about. Transformers looks great upconverted but has NO detail, like Spiderman 1, 2, or 3 on Blu.

What type of TV do you have. If its under 40" and does not display at least 720p there wouldn't be a difference.

It doesn't. SM3 has much more detail. The OP needs an eye exam.

    funny you should mention this....

I was at a "mom & pop" Home Theater store that was "showcasing" the difference between HD DVD and regular DVD. They had two of the same plasma tvs, same cables (monster HDMI) and one was a Denon HD upconverter and the other was the new Toshiba HD-DVD player. Both were playing the scene on repeat where Starscream fires missles and Frenzy is thawing out Megs while Bumblebee touches the cube.

Aside from onscreen text (decepticons talking) the picture was almost identical. The Toshiba was SLIGHTLY more crisp, but not $200+ worth.

The TV i have is a 2007 37 inch Toshiba Regza 720P(Yes, I'm running HDMI). I was just startled to say the least that my TF DVD looks just as good as the Blue Ray. On some scenes the Blue Ray does display the colors brighter I'll give it that. But overall it's not enough of a difference to justify the astronomical price for one.
