There's still a few more days left in 2009, I was wondering if Avatar would beat out ROTF as the number 1, hopefully ROTF's title will hold out..yay!
blegh, I don't care for movies like these becoming the highest grossing movie of the year even if I am a Transformers fan
I've heard this before already. Sometime this past fall, we got the news that ROTF was the highest grossing film of 2009 - in the US, at least. Nice to see we still held on throughout the rest of the year, though.
Yeah, but Harry Potter and Ice Age (of all things) beat us out worldwide. 2009 Yearly Box Office Results - Box Office Mojo
Harry Potter fans are happier than us TF fans. Could you imagine if there was a War between those two fans?
If not at being the #1 Movie of 2009, then I'm sure Avatar will garner some awards for its visual effects and whatnot instead of ROTF.
The only reason Avatar isn't #1 is it's had way less time to have people go view it. I have heard far more critical acclaim for Avatar than I ever have, or will for ROTF. ROTF was essentially a glorified G1 episode with bad humor and terrible plot. Avatar was a masterpiece of visual technology and gripping story. ROTF had some highpoints, and TF1 was awesome, but Avatar clearly is a better film IMO. I just hope that TF3 goes back to a more TF1 styled film, i'd be very happy with that.
You've got to be kidding me. Yeah I'll agreee with the first part but hell no on se bolded one. Both films had totaly ******ed plots. Avatar is better than ROTF only because it didn't have the stupid fart humor and that the characters weren't as annoying...and it had the badass Colonel. I couldn't care less which had the better effects, I don't care about effects anymore..at all...
surely you are the one who is kidding? The storytelling in Avatar was both gripping, and vastly more compelling. As implausible as elements of the plot may have been, it made us believe. That's all that matters. And this was down to more than just special effects.
It is Dances with Wolves with giant blue cat people.. It is not compelling...It has been done in countless movies. It crams "White man bad, Nature/natives good" type message down your throat.
I've never seen Dances with Wolves, but I did see Avatar. Despite the fact the movie painted humans as evil, it was a gripping story. I was right in there, wishing I could be a Na'vi by the end of it. Even if it's been told before, it was told well. I certainly enjoyed the story Avatar told far more than I enjoyed the story of TF2.
