Has there been a Japanese TF Animated dub yet? Because I am curious to how the characters would sound like in Japanese.

I believe Takara said they're not going to touch the line.

    takara never said that.

most shows in japan either need 26 or 52 episodes to be picked up. animated went above the first number, but below the second. while this doesnt mean it wont be picked up (many gundam series are under 52 episodes, for example) it does mean it'll be harder to solicit because it leaves the network with an unusual sized gap after it ends.

It could be it ends up the same way as Beast Wars Returns.

Do you think they would bring it in as a midseason replacement for a show that gets cancelled? How do broadcast rights over there work? Could it be released direct to DVD?

    They never said that.

Since its a 30 episode series, most likely it will begin it's run in January so that it will end by the end of summer. That's how most 30 episode animes work after all.

It's actually a 39-episode show, 42 if you break the pilot movie into half-hours and include it.

If they touched Beast Machines, there's no reason they couldn't touch this. (though admittedly the Japanese TF focus has changed a lot since Takara and Tomy became one). Perhaps they could release the series direct-to-DVD in Japan and the toys as TRU exclusives or something.

    It doesn't work like that.
Basically there is no sponser for the show.
TakaraTomy's biggest partner (that is, the advertising agency) is not involved in the animated project. That is why all connections (promotions on magazines, radio, toys, etc.) are not available for doing a launch for the show in japan.
Cartoon network japan cannot touch any of the transformers shows as well except BW and the movie because there is a deal between Takaratomy, hasbro, sunrise, Toei animation and the advertising agency.
So the japanese ended up with nothing but their own "spinoff" products.

    That makes no sense whatsoever.

I know. People can be pretty stupid sometimes. Takara probably wants to air it pretty badly. The fact is, Japanese kids love shows like this. Powerpuff girls and Teen Titans were both very popular with children (and PPG with housewives for some reason.)

There are three factors involved that prevented the show from coming out already.
1:Just like when we get anime on tv, they wait for a certain amount of episodes to be made first. Generally at least 30 , with 52 being the preferred number.
2:D ubbing. It takes time to dub a show properly.
3: Revenge of the Fallen. 3 is a factor due to 1 and 2. By the time they'd normally start airing the show, RotF toys would be in full swing. It's just like with us and the remaining Animated stuff. The timing was just screwy.

So yeah. I'd say there is a VERY good chance of Animated showing up in Japan next year.

I can't see it airing over there. Kids would want the toys to go along with the show, but they weren't available there. Unless TakTom gets the molds from Hasbro, I can't see them doing anything with it.

But to answer the OP's original query, they'd sound just like every other Japanese cartoon ever made.

From what I've seen, there are no modern Transformer molds "off limits" to Takara, because they engineered pretty much ALL of them. Only possible exceptions being toys Takara were not directly involved with. (and they WERE with Animated.)

    Ah, well there you go!

I guess that'd be good news for TFA fans if the market picked back up in Japan. There'd be Japanese releases of what's already out there, plus they'd probably go and create their own if it gets any kind of momentum.

I just know that in my weekly pilgramage to TRU in Awase, there wasn't a glimpse of TFA to be found.

yeah, considering all transformers, either from takara or hasbro, are made in the exact same factories, the "dont have molds" thing doesnt apply at all. which is why you got the "It doesn't work that way." response. because it soooo doesnt work that way.

Didn't we just have this thread a few weeks ago?

    It went like this:

    1. Someone starts a thread asking this very question.

    2. Some people answer with rampant speculation.

    3. Other peole answer with made-up BS.

    4. Someone refers to direct statements by TakaraTomy representatives, directly countering the posts by 2. and 3.

    5. Everyone else ignores 4. and continues with rampant speculation.

Hmm, now thinking about it, this seems awfully familiar.

I hope they don't get it.

I'm beginning to feel like anything America gets exclusively is crap, like some of the decos on Universe and Classics, or that our MPs are extremely late in Skywarp's case. We really don't have anything to call our own, and perhaps Animated could be that.

But perhaps I'm being a bit selfish. Still, I enjoy the irony of people in Japan having to pay high import prices for an Animated figure. :p
