Although i dont like Animated too much, the designs translate very well to 3D. They are far better in toy than in the series, which has awful art xD...well somewhat.

I have found some i want to add to my collection. I already have Grimlock and Cliffjumper, Activator version, which are small versions that transform automatically to robot mode, very similar to the Voyager versions, simply larger and more detailed...i think you know this already.

I also found Activator Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Megatron, Thundercracker and they are all excellent. I will add them to my collection. I prefer Activators over Voyager, they seem to lose quality as they get larger.

Articulation is crap, mainly due to the animatronics Hasbro stuffed in it. Transformation is a severely dumbed-down version of Voyager Optimus, only with a lame auto-spin conversion when you roll the truck mode forward.

I don't even know if you should buy it for a son or nephew who's under 8, especially for its price.

    On the contrary...

Deluxe Regular Bumblebee, from what I've been told, is plagued with quality control problems (i.e. Stingers don't fold in place, car parts don't snap in place, too many different shades of yellow everywhere). Plus, the black stripe is on the wrong side in robot mode.

Deluxe Elite Guard Bumblebee, on the other hand, transforms and snaps perfectly. He has an excellent paint job to boot.

With that in mind, I can't wait for the Voyager Hydrodive Bumblebee. That figure itself looks to be the most show-accurate version yet.

Leader Megatron. An absolutely fantastic toy, brilliantly simple transformation, show accurate, great articulation...

    My favourite Transformer ever.

Blurr, Prowl, Starscream (voyager), Lugnut, and Ultra Magnus are worth picking up.

Avoid Leader Megatron, unless you feel like paying leader prices for what is essentially a Scout class with electronics. Avoid the twins, as they're gimped by their combination gimmick (although they were entertaining in the show). Buy with care with regards to the first three waves - quality control issues were rampant. And for the love of God avoid Lockdown - he's extremely poorly made.

hmm.. i still dont like the deluxe mold (the feet are terrible, and its hard to pose without making it look weird) and although i have elite guard BB, i always felt it was a meaningless repaint.. and hey, any animated collection should have a regular-looking (yellow) bumblebee.. i cant wait for the voyager one myself, that looks much improved.. until then, the activators is the best, imo..

They're all great...for someone starting out, I would recommend Voyager Prime, Voyager Grimlock and Deluxe Jazz.

all of them other than supreme prime, original release lockdown needs a shave in the hand area to be perfect, but other than that, i have no complaints about any of them
