Mighty Orbots was a cartoon back from the 80's, I don't know if many of you remember it or not but here are some interesting comparisions:
Both are set in the future
The Orbots and Autobots are both recognized as heroes
Orbots has Ohno who is a little robot girl with a key to activate the Orbots when they combine. Sari is a little girl with a key that has healing properties
Both the main villains (Umbra and Megatron at this point) are only heads with no bodies
Bulkhead looks a lot like Crunch.

I'm sure there are more but those are the ones I could think off. And boy I loved Mighty Orbots as a kid.

It's been pretty much stated that Mighty Orbots was an influence from the beginning.

    You mean.... Crunch?

There's definite similarities, especially the 'superhero' angle. (though the whole 'secret identity' thing with the Orbots was lamer than Superman just wearing glasses. At least the A: Autobots can turn into vehicles and hopefully blend in with a crowd (of vehicles).)

I'd love to see an Orbots box set.

Now I'm startin' to think TF:Animated could use a Bo and Boo. :)

Supposedly, and according to Wikipedia, a lawsuit from Tonka kept Mighty Orbots from going more than one season and kept any toys from being produced*. Now Hasbro has Tonka and the Go-Bots name, and is making an Orbots-inspired (in part) cartoon and toyline.

(* that, and Muppet Babies and Smurfs were smoking the poor 'bots in the saturday morning ratings :(  )

speaking of tonka when it comes to the role they played in getting mighty orbots taken off the air did they ever oficaly explain the true reason of the lawsuit?

you ask me the whole thing smells like they chose to throw a shit fit at the time just because they did not want orbots to give them further competition as a show and or possible toyline at the time

does that pretty much cover it?

me i am very glad they got bought out over by hasbro over the years

It's a down right crime that Orbots got cancelled... and hasn't gotten a DVD set. Had the best animation of all the 80's cartoons.

I still can't believe Tonka had the nerve to sue, you can't copy right a general idea. There are only so many general ways to name robots.... Orbots,Gobots,Autobots. All I can think is they thought they could get away with it because of the word "Mighty" and that ground is pretty thin ice at best.

was there ever a torrent for this series?
considering there's really no other way to watch it aside from various clips on youtube it's something I've been wondering.
would love to watch it again. One of many robot shows from the 80's that I loved.

so just what exactly kept the creators of mighty orbots form countersuiing tonka over the matter?

you ask me they should have kicked tonka's lying ass over the matter
