But before that, they fought an evil threatening what they cherised most...

    ...their freedom to exist.

Join the original cast of the 80s cartoon phenomenom for a grand adventure like no other on earth.

In 2008, you will be transformed...again.

    Transformers: Advent of the Sha'ar

    ...The Uron are coming.... ***

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, so the big announcement teaser is here. Slated as a prequel to the 1986 movie, Advent of the Sha'ar will be an 100 page graphic novel slated for online release in 2010. The first 20 pages will debut on Deviantart in a few months with the story in its entirety being featured on its own site later next year. I'm currently in talks with a web designer and I'm aiming for the site to be in Flash.

Advent of the Sha'ar will once again tell a tale of those originals we all loved as kids. But we're bringing the animated quality to the comic pages up a few astronotches. I'm striving to compete with the high quality of current anime series.

As an added treat, there will even be an original soundtrack from some local rock bands who have volunteered to create music inspired by the book.

It's been a long time coming and I hope you guys will enjoy this as much as we are putting it together. Keep it locked at www.grungewerx.deviantart.com for any additional news and production art.

This is 100% for the fans and will be worked on in my free time. I'm still taking commissions, so work will resume as normal, guys! :D

Now on to some production notes:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    *** Production Notes ***

Some of you will notice that Perceptor's microscope is on the wrong side. That was an intentional decision, I was taking a little artistic license. However, I'm planning to put it back where it belongs in the comic, so don't fret. :D

The background was "painted" in photoshop and took quite a bit of time. I've done clouds before, but I wanted to kick it up a notch with this teaser as the book will have some detailed landscapes. I considered leaving out Tracks' smoke trail to keep from blotting out the sunset details, but opted to keep this piece as close to the original lineart as possible.

The glare on Magnus' eyes is a little movie effect I tried on an earlier pic last year, but tried to tone it down a bit for this piece since it's mostly an anime look.

I had planned on adding some sun glares and additional effects, but after working until 5am in the morning, I just ran out of gas. Not to mention, I have to get back to work on some other art.

Oh, one more thing. This particular image actually taxed my computer a bit. At 23 x 12 inches, this file is well over 100 MEGs. I think that's a record for me, lol.

Anyways, C and C welcome as always guys.

    Keep it fastened.

    - GWX

    (Edit)

Just got some sample music in from one the bands donating music for the original soundtrack. Please click the link below to go the the download page. Scroll down and it's the first link:

Awesome work! I love Warpath in that picture...is he shooting at a threat from the flank that everyone else is oblivious to, or does he have really bad aim? I also like the addition of shell casing from Skyfire's gun; it's rare with TF weapons and an interesting little detail.

It's stunning how much it looks like an animation cel, which really captures the feel of the show. Wallpaper'd!

TFW. Where even the mods have fun :)

That's wonderful! It'd be great to have plastered to your entire wall, a murel (If I'm not so illeterate). The smoke coming from Tracks jets was a nice touch in design. Dern it! I can't get good TF art where I live :banghead:

wow, you've really done a good job capturing the original 80s bots in their animated forms and I love the coloring. It's amazing to see how little things like highlights and shadows help spice things up a bit. Are you planning on creating a comic for your "Transformers Lost Tales" as well? Would this be the "pilot" issue?

Anyways, great job Grungie, I look forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the support guys! I appreciate the kind words. :D

Star Cracker> It's funny you mentioned that. The idea was originally the first story of the TF: The Lost Episodes continuity, the Trial of Elita One, but I expanded the concept quite a bit and the story evolved. So yes, in a way it IS the pilot for that. The way things end in the story, it could either lead into a Lost Episodes type series or just go directly into the movie. :D
