    Hey guys,

After years, YEARS, of wanting to see one of these up close, I finally got ahold of one and have written up a review of the toy and added it to the website:

    http://www.tf-1.com/articles/pretf_frame.php?art=joustralig

Anyone who knows anything about Joustra preTFs knows how special this piece was going to be, and it didn't disappoint.

The article has lots of background information and tonnes of contributions and Mirage-related images, some pretty spectacular.

No Paul Vromen artwork on the article just yet, but there will be in the near future and I will post to update on any uploaded artwork.

All the best, hope you like it
    Maz

Indeed, a tremendous article. I'm going to make the DX set my next priority hunt, specifically for red Ligier.

Hey Maz, do the blue and red colors bear any significance to the car? Was there a particular reason for the red one? I find the decision to re-paint a racer to such a contrasting color to be a bit odd. But I don't know much about racing.

It is entirely possible as I found scalextric slot cars of the Ligier JS11 in red AND yellow!

I remember the old Mclaren F1 cars in the Marlboro colour schemes (like your Marlboor Wheeljack) at one time were painted YELLOW and white instead of red and white because they wanted to promote Marlboro lights cigarettes for a particular race.

That's a startlingly well put-together review, and a VERY enjoyable read. Thank you!

It's disappointing that it seems that the Mirage mold has been lost/destroyed/damaged, as a release of this guy in the TFC line + a red version from eHobby would be tres bien.

You know, Mirage was one of those toys along with Sunstreaker that I desperately wanted to find 20 years ago. I kept trying to send in robot points to order them from the catalog, only to get letters saying no longer available.

I'm not even sure if it even had anything to do with the cartoon characters. I think it was just because they were really cool looking robots and cars.

I did successfully get Wheeljack in the mail though(he was the third one I really wanted).

It's the same for Sunstreaker which could have been repainted into Police and Red versions, and Wheeljack which could have been done in Marlboor livery.

Those exclusives and red Ligier are some of the most desireable and sought-after Diaclone exclusives, and exactly what eHobby would have made a killing on.

Indeed. I'll feely admit to not understanding the reasoning behind what gets reissued and when, the factors that impact that decision, and to what lengths TakaraTomy are prepared to go to reconsitute or remake a broken mold... however, I think the whole thing about broken or missing molds preventing a reissue should be permanently put to rest. Between the engineers, designers, and factories of TakaraTomy, the expertise to re-engineer Sunstreaker, Mirage, and Wheeljack certainly exists. What surprises me is that the powers that be must not consider this a financially viable path to take. Seems to me that a TFC reissue of any of those guys would be a guaranteed sellout, and their eHobby counterparts even more so.

Additionally, I'm perplexed that eHobby did not pursue a blue Fairlady or black Ironhide, not to mention the plethora of Trailbreaker and Hoist decos. All of these molds have been used within the last few years.

    And yeah, I know:

With regards to repairing broken moulds...I got a feeling TakaraTomy just - lazy.

I think Soundwave was the exception because he is one of the more popular TFs unlike Sunstreaker or Mirage....

That was too awesome. It's amazing all the work you go through to gather up all the materials and small extra interresting tidbits.

Like the real F1s, tires & mini comic pics.
Probably anxious to get a pic of painted Alt Mirage in there

What can I say man,you make the best TF articles around

Oh I would have loved to have a sweet shot of Alt Mirage next to the TF and Joustra and GiG etc, I love evolution pictures.

And thanks to you-know-who for offering me an Alt Mirage pic :)

As for the F1 stuff, as soon as I saw that picture of the Ligiers in one of my mags, I already saw the article taking shape in my head, before I even bought the Joustra Ligier.

Thanks to all for the praise, it's much appreciated!

    All the best

!!! That had to be one of the most thorough and enjoyable Transformers articles ever written. It was such a nice history lesson/pictorial. I never knew a red Mirage existed.

    Well done sir!
