Hey guys, I've added a new article to the site about an original blue-eared G1 Cyclonus original pre-production release sample: http://www.tf-1.com/articles/eurous_frame.php?art=bluecyc The last article I did about pre-production G1 went down really well, so I'm trying to stick with the theme for now. Although this kind of thing can be hard to find... All the best Maz
This version of Cyclonus isn't really a prototype. I own the original, first run Cyclonus, (w/rubsign) and he does have "blue ears", along with other blue paint apps that's missing on the Targetmaster Cyclonus version. However, I never knew this was a hard to find version.
When I opened up my Cyclonus way back in 86, the rubsign fell off right before he even came all the way out of the box. The lack of a rubsign on a good condition figure isn't a very good indicator of its status. I had the same happen to Tracks a year or so prior. That aside, interesting article.
Interesting that you decided to focus on a post Diaclone/mocroman mold this time around. I feel like the first real Transformers really started in 86', after all the Diaclone/Microman toy molds had been used. "Transformers" had come into their own, and Has/Tak needed new product. I recieved Cyclonus as a gift in 86'. I was suprised at the sparse decal sheet, and taken back by his unusual design and construction. A definite stylistic change in the 86' line from what was offered prior. It's a nice article maz. Its cool to see that even the later toys have an own evolution of their own.
That proto/first version/whatever looks way cooler than the "standard" one to me We really need a new version of G1 Cyclonus in toyform, and not in the damn Titanium line
Hey guys thanks for the praise Something I have noticed across the boards is that in my article, I obviously haven't made it clear enough that the blue ears are NOT what makes me think this is a Production sample (not prototype). I have mentioned in there that even production versions had blue ears in early 1986. It's the stickers on the arms that give it away. All the best Maz
Which is exactly why I knew that a lack of a rubsign on a mint figure would not be proof enough for anyone else Hence the stickers on the arms being the decisive factor. All the best Maz
Hey guys, I have added Paul Vromen's great artwork to this article now both in the sidebar and uncropped at the end of the article. Also, I cleared up my own confusion about the landing gear variation as well. It's purely an early vs late Cyclonus issue, nothing exclusive to the prod. sample. http://www.tf-1.com/articles/eurous_frame.php?art=bluecyc All the best Maz
