In this day and age of vintage Transformers and Diaclone collecting, an age where websites, forums, Facebook, blogs, publications and a strong knowledgeable community have helped expose almost every secret of those venerable toy lines, we don't expect to see anything completely new any more. Maybe the odd Finnish Diaclone packaging variant, a foreign Ceji Joustra release of a favourite with exclusive box artwork or even an Italian GiG pre-Transformer with a mish-mash of Diaclone and Transformers colours or moulding that finally gets confirmed. But to find something completely unheard of and new that nobody knew existed, something that has never been seen by the wider collecting community in approximately 30 years, that is impossible to imagine nowadays, right?

    Wrong.

My deepest thanks go to my partners in crime Brandon "Heroic Decepticon" Yap, Gordon "VF1" Yip, Colin "Specimen-17" Pringle for what was one of the most exciting and enjoyable things that I have ever been a part of in this hobby.

You can read Heroic Decepticon's entry on this same item and its discovery HERE for more backstory on the source and "Project Vanguard".

    All the best

Regardless of how super rare it is (and it is!) to me it just looks awesome. Great looking figure.

I read this earlier today. I think best report to date. I like reading these, because I will never collect diaclone. Unless of course I hit it BIG!

Holy...amazing find. A new diaclone after so many years.

Figure looks amazing. Not just the pristine state, but just the look of it. Seems to me the Sideswipe mold looks good in whatever colors they throw on it.

Your articles have already lead to me buying Deepcover, Clampdown and Tigertrack. Fortunately, this is one I'll never have to worry about since it's very rare and will now skyrocket in price. But I think I have found a purpose for my old G1 Sideswipe that is still in very minty condition save the recentely snapped off roof. Wanted to replace that anyway and I now know what I will do with the remaining parts. Won't be real, but a custom should suffice for me.

Gorgeous pics Brando, the more I see it the more sense it makes as both something I'd love but also why it wasn't produced on a large scale or possibly at all.

    All the best

Still, it does look plenty magnificent, for some strange reason. Not that I'm going to, but I wonder whether stickers on it would improve or take away from its purity.
