That is complete bullshit. They can't prove those people were going to drive, some drunks actually take cabs or have sober friends drive them.

I know, I'm one of them (usually the drunk one).

I agree. They're breaking the law. And like the spokeswoman said, many drunks do stupid crap and hurt others or themselves.

All the bars in my area a members only, even though it is easy for any one to become a member. This way intoxicated people are not in public, but at a private association where the owner has said they can get drunk as long as they don't cause any problems. Texas needs to follow suit because oven police officers are not allowed in unless they have a warrent or are invited.

I thought the point of drinking was to get drunk. This is real bull.

    Quoted for truth.

I'm pretty sure they don't do that sort of stuff in my city/province.

Count me in on the WTF...most of the times I go out to the bars I have a DD and the times I don't I usually just drink a few beers.

Well in Denton, which is only 20 minutes north of Dallas, bars are illegal so all of the bars are "private clubs" that require no fees or anything to get in, you just have to sign a sheet of paper the first time you go in to become a member and then they just scan your liscence everytime you come in after that.

So let me get this straight.
You can go to a bar in Texas, get drunk, but not allowed out into the streets drunk?

Well, there's pinball machines, and darts, and pool tables, and line dancing and mechanical bulls. Those are fun, right?

I wonder if they'll start going to porn stores next and start arresting just the horny patrons for lewd and lascivious acts? "Excuse me sir, is that an erection? Just as I thought. Please turn around and put your hands behind your back. No sir, I prefer to use my own handcuffs if it's all the same to you."

Okay so maybe my view of Texas is slightly skewed.

You try living in a motel in Fort Stockton for three months during the summer.

    On second thought, don't.
