Or maybe that new spiffy Fisker. Or an actual Lotus.

Elon Musk is the new John DeLorean. Crack cocaine, anyone?

Deathwatch: Tesla Motors has $9 million in the bank, may not deliver cars

There is no way they can get out of this hole unless some cash strapped investor buys the company.

    Well that sucks.

I was really looking forward to the Tesla. Once again, electric cars run out of juice.

Now all we'll have to remember Tesla by is their little red Hot Wheels cars. Oh well...maybe that former employee of Tesla who ran off with their technology and started up his own company can still bring hope to the clouded future of the electric car.

On the one hand, that really blows. On the other, this was something I kinda figured was going to happen from the beginning.

Pity, really. They made a pretty sweet looking and specced car.

Damn, just when I thought the future in which electric cars would reign supreme was close at hand, and that the Chevy Volt would set as a model for the way electric cars should be like... not like one of those ugly-looking Gem vehicles.

By the way Netkid, I like your sig.

Hilarious, I remember 60 seconds doing a piece on Tesla vs GM and 60 seconds was basically endorsing Tesla as being the next big thing and rubbing it in GMs face

hmmm, while I desire more evidence than a single report, this would make me a sad panda. The Tesla Roadster was the coolest looking electric vehicle I'd ever seen (and yes, I hated the Volt's look). With a 0-60mph time of 4.7 seconds and good looks oozing from the tyres upwards, this is an awesome car.

Bill Gates should stop spending all his money on touch screen countertops for those too retarded to google a recipe and should start making electric cars :p

Somebody will bail them out, or just buy the company. There is too much money to be made.

They made the mistake by not employing car people from the get go.

    The Hubbert curve is coming........

    Conspiracy Brother:
The old companies drove up the price of oil to crash the American markets and destroy the rise of electric vehicles.

Now how does the subprime bands fit into this equation?

Oh sure...I can picture the morning comute hastle caused by multiple Red Rings of Death :p

Seriously, the car looks awesome and just MAYBE if some company started making cars with hot looks but economy performance the consumers would respond...I'd buy an electric car that looks like that in a heartbeat if it was priced resonably...pricing most of the car buying public out of their market hardly seems like a good business plan, and making cars that are econimical but hideous doesn't seem to work well either.

I wonder if rising costs in the last year may have tanked it. Or it could have just been under-estimating some cost along the way. I know I just read an article about the Volt's battery pack, and that its cost is outrageously high for what equates to the power of one gallon of gasoline in a 4 cylinder motor.

A lot of the money could have been put into the development of their new car they just revealed.

Apologies for resurrecting an older thread, but I just read this terrible news.

2 years ago I was fortunate enough to visit the Tesla workshop and be taken out round the test track in the car itself. It was frankly phenomenal. Easily good enough to convince even the most die hard petro-head that electric is the way forward.

I sincerely hope they manage to survive this downturn.

When they develop an electric car than can go on a road trip let me know. Until then, I don't care.

This 200 mile per charge crap is useless for anyone that does more than drive to and from work.
