I'm not sure what you'd call techno, but:
    Autechre
    DJ Krush
Sephiroth (that's a Jewish electro-bass-classical band of sorts)
    Thievery Corporation
    VNV Nation
    Rob Dougan
    Air Fracture
    Hybrid
    Brainbug
    Dntel
    Mr Oizo
    Paul Oakenfold
    PXL
    Trance Anthemica
Transformers Detroit (has nothing to do with Transformers)
    Traci Lords

Traci Lords the former porn star?? Huh, learn something new every day.

Also, <3 VNV Nation and Hybrid. While I don't listen to much techno, 'If I Survive' is one of my top ten all-time fave songs.

I like some different electronic music that has really has nothing to do with techno or Detroit, but I live in a rural enough area that anything with a keyboard is "durrhurr techno."
Mostly electro stuff like Freezepop,Gary Numan,Kraftwerk, etc. And of course the gothic futurepop stuff like VNV and Apop/Fairlight Children. I really like some of the chiptune stuff that people do now like Bit Shifter.

I don't listen to techno..... the few i can think of im sure you know is The Crystal Method, The Prodigy ...but i can recommend some other DJ's that are Darkstep (sub-genre of DnB) and some Hardcore and Gabba if you're interested which is what I listen to and spin.

Evol Intent (new stuff does not sound like the old stuff they have but they are my fav)
    Ewun
    Dieselboy
    The Upbeats
    Angerfist
DJ Paul Elstak (his hardcore tracks)
    DJ Starscream
    General Malice
    Moshpit
    Spor
    Unexist

And also I would mention Celldweller who has a mixture of styles as well as Moshpit.

I fucking LOVE techno. Make it myself too. As for stuff to listen to, here are a few reccomendations (I will include a few EBM bands in this list too):
    Meat Beat Manifesto
    Kraftwerk
    Assemblage 23
    Combichrist
    Apoptygma Berzerk
    ElectroniCAT
    Finitribe
    Emperion
    Fluke
    Ultraviolence/Johnny Violent
    Mesh
    Nitzer Ebb
    Orbital
    Photek
    Juno Reactor
    Funker Vogt
    The Prodigy
    The Shamen
    Underworld
    Haujobb

I used to love VNV Nation, until I gigged with them. Heard them way too much in clubs now as well.

Oh shit I forgot Haujobb,I saw them one time opening for VNV and they kicked ass too. A friend of mine actually ran into them and VNV after a show (different show same tour) and he said Haujobb were dicks,he said it was obvious VNV didn't like them, either.

Haujobb were on the same bill as VNV when we gigged with them. And your friend is right.
"Zing" implies some sort of humour being present in your post, as opposed as something designed to get the backs of other posters up. I can't think of any other reason to post in a thread about something you don't even like.

I was in an industrial techno band at the time called I.O.N.; we got a lucky break and ended up playing Black Celebration II at the Astoria in London in 2002 (I think it was 2002 anyway).
