Regardless of what she turned it, I find it unacceptable language to use for a teacher. And they wonder why there are so many bullied kids in schools these days.
I was going to say something about how wrong this is and how that teacher should be fired and then I read this. I almost spit out coffee all over my monitor, and then I sat back and reflected on the genius of that statement.
That is just wrong. I'm sorry to say it, but it's just wrong. Think of the sixth grade girl getting her assignments back, only to be called a loser by her own teacher. That's going to lower the girl's morale and self-esteem.
I had to laugh even though it is kinda wrong. I've written some pretty mean comments on tests I've graded. Though I'm grading college freshman, so they're at least considered adults. And after watching the video, I say meh. The teacher is clearly trying to relate to these kids on their level.
It's a character-building exercise. One of two things will happen: a) Kid will suck it up and pull themselves up by their bootstraps in order to prove themselves of non-loser status. b) Kid, after much self-reflection, will realize that they are in fact a loser and will wallow in their loserdom.
the levels of bullying actually vary though, there is "simple teasing and the kid just gets furious over playing around" and "getting literally laughed at on a daily basis for someting that is a special bond with a family member".....yea, dealing with the second one sucks.....
Yeah, I saw that too and laughed. The context of the word in relation to the use seems a little off. Being a loser doesn't nessesary mean being incorrect. He should have used 'dummy' instead.
I had a teacher who wrote up a sign and stuck it on the wall : "Excuses Are For Losers". A harsh philsophy, but if you need an excuse, you must have failed somewhere along the way. It's a cruel world with all this talk of winners and losers. But you only really fail if you quit, and truth is I know lots of people who used to be 'losers'. It's something you can turn around.
Actually, there was a recent study that showed that bullying has dropped significantly recently. It was all over the news and yahoo.
My wife is a teacher. She tells me all the horror stories from her classroom experiences. Although she said that she wouldn't write something like that on a paper, she did "understand" where the teacher was coming from. Some kids these days are just flat out idiots....they don't care about learning/getting an education....some of them don't even want to. They think they'll grow up to be Music stars, Sport stars, or dope dealers....they all look for the easy way out. Teachers can only do so much in an eight hour day with 20 + kids in a room. The PARENTS need to get involved....stop blaming it all on the teachers and the education system.
