The movie started in 2005 and Galvatron travelled back in time in the comics set during the movie in 2006. Does anybody think this is just a simple error / working from an early draft - or is it just reasonable to conclude that the movie started in December and ended in January (or later given how much space travel there is)? It doesn’t look like December on Earth in the movie, but either Cyclonus or Scourge comments in the comics that there is no form of weather control in 1986, so that explains the bright sunny day for December in the movie at least.
Does anyone actually know why the year was changed from 2006 in the early draft, to 2005? 2006 is exactly twenty years on from the film's theatrical year of release, which is a nice round number to jump ahead. Why change the script to be set nineteen years past the then present day? ~L~
I've always thought the movie started in late 2005 and crossed over into 2006 - the point after Starscream's coronation/death when Galvatron travelled back in time. The third series is set in 2006 after all. (Except for the Japanese translation of course).
