I just spent a gazillion euros on an Alternators Rodimus. Did a lot of shaving, carefully painting it with Tamiya X-11 chrome silver and Humbrol Copper. Then I thought: Let's clear coat it.

I used to coat it with a brush, it was a nice finish, felt smooth etc. But I wanted to try something different. I thought, what could be good on a figure with mostly Tamiya paint? Tamiya clear coating, of course.

Ten minutes ago I sprayed some of the stuff on the figure. Two minutes ago, I checked. WTH, all the paint is dissolving!

Did I do something wrong? Is that coat for UNDERNEATH paint? I checked forums etc. And those state that the Tamiya ts-13 is just fine.

I guess I'll be shaving the bastard, and start over..

EDIT: Found the problem. The thinner in the TS-13 will attack the acrylic paints I used. Should've let it cure longer and maybe glossed it over first....

Sucks, lesson learned though. I hope I can fix it later on. =(

Man that stinks! Humbrol isn't acrylic though is it? I've never used it, just was always under the impression it was laquer.

Err yeah, AFAIK you shouldn't add anything enamel or lacquer on top of a coat of acrylic paint. I've never tried it though but that's what I've read.

No Humbrol is enamel, but it's on top of an acrylic layer. I'm currently wiping it with some alcohol, and then I'm gonna start over. -________________-

@mampy: the enamel copper over the acrylic silver didn't pose any problems, it dries nicely and doesn't dissolve the silver.

Using the Humbrol gloss coat (enamel) resulted in good results before, so I'm thinking of sticking to that. Sucks that I just bought the can of spraypaint for 7 bucks.

    @ SQ7: Floor polish?

Since I read somewhere that the coating wouldn't damage fully cured acrylics, I tried spraying my ROTF Leader Prime's arm-pinstripes. Conclusion: Gotta repaint my Leader Prime's arm. What the Hell can I use this stuff on then. =/

I'm going back to this stuff. Although very thick, with patience it gives a great effect.

I made that mistake once. Clearcoated BumblebeeĀ“s boosters after repainting them entirely. D'oh.

Hey, you're dutch! Me too. First one I've seen here =p. I'm guessing this Future Floor Finish is hard to get in the Netherlands.

I believe the product is called Klear in UK/Europe. Same stuff, different name.

There's a couple more on here, like Ra88.
And yes, i searched my ass off for that stuff.
I'll take a look at Big Hank's tip up there though, maybe i can find it under that name.

I've done it before, but you have to spray it in VERY THIN coats, otherwise it will eat the paint. I mean really thin, so thin that you will probably build up 3 or 4 coats of paint before you get good coverage.

Using this stuff is too risky though, rather not try it again. Only the vehicle mode was coated, and that's easier to repaint. It's already done and drying btw.

Rhinox555, if you find the stuff, do let me know, please.

Went searching again today. The "pledge" brand in the link SQ7 posted is available in Holland, but so far no luck finding the "Future finish" version, i only found some woodpolish which didn't seem to be the same.

Pledge bought Future floor polish, so it's actually the same thing :)

How can Clint Eastwood still be the baddest mofo in the world at 78? That's some Magnum Force for ya!

I realise that, they just didn't have the kind that used to be future.
They only had some kind of brown-labeled bottle for wood.
