Just found some old Batman comics while I was cleaning and does anyone notice in old cartoons/comics/even movies, whenever a villain (or sometimes the hero) is going to throw a punch, they yell "Take this!" or "take that!" (after they hit the other guy?)

I'm 32 and too old to be getting into scuffs anymore, but back in my younger days, I've been in a few, and I can't for the life of me ever remember saying that or having it said before I hit/got hit. Yet if you read any comics from the early 90s or earlier, that phrase gets thrown around like nobody's business

I dunno, this was a random thought I just had today

It's like the original Batman show. Everytime they get into a big fight, they graphically put in big words like, POW! BIF! BANG! BASH! BOP! And so on. Come to think of it, makes me wonder if G1 Warpath watched Batman considering the way he talks.

I can honestly say that no, I have never been able to pull off a witty paragraph in the midst of throwing a punch. I imagine it would come off unintelligible.

The only logical thing to yell when giving someone an epic beat-down is 'twinkie house'.

Just like in Japanese series where they have war cries and call out their attacks.

Isn't it like in Karate or other martial arts you always here them say, "Hu!" whenever they do a move?

Maybe "take this" and "take that" are carryovers from radio dramas, where they had to use audio to indicate that actions - like dudes beating each other up - were occuring. Dunno.

I thought it was one half of a fight over who liked the better boy band - when the other guy punches back he would shout "Boyzone!". If it was a three-way fight, "Backstreet Boys!" might get shouted during a punch.

I long for the day when I can yell "Falcon Punch!" before really hammering somebody in a fight.

When you're reading a comic, you expect dialog. Looking at still frames of a fight with nothing written doesn't convey what's taking place as well as it does when there is some sort of dialog involved. Hence, "Take that!" and "Pow! Wham! Zonk!" When people read, they expect words.
