Nice packaging. I really am looking forward to seeing comparisons with United and Generations/RTS....I want to see if they're really worth the hefty price tag.

So much for upgrades on the car this year. :(  Looks like all my money will be spent on United/Generations toys.

I wonder what Takara's fascination is with the Transformers:Animated card shape. They love to use it regardless of whether or not the imagery printed on the card fits it or not.

It'll be hard to make a final judgment till good comparison shots are seen, but from the looks of it Hasbro won this round handily. That sky blue color really doesn't suit Straxus well. It is less contrasty, and that softness makes him look less villainous. Also, if the BBTS pics are accurate, his black eyes look dead compared to the Hasbro version's gold eyes. Takara missed the mark on this one, I think.

cant say I'm sold on it. the idea is cool but.... that prime design is my least fav in the last few years and seeing it printed on every card does not help

Why do *other* countries get the good toys, while they release the shitty colors over here in the states? Fuck this shit

That's some really sweet packaging art! Do they use twine twist ties in Japan too?

Just a quick question, did Japan ever get the Marvel comics? If not...why botehr releasing Darkmount as Straxus and not just as american name?

I'm guessing they have different copyright laws that let them use the old name and when you consider that in the Asian market he's already quite obscure I'm guessing they want all the hints they can give him

grass is always greener on the other side. I've heard quite a few stores of Japanese collectors hunting down the Alts due to the increased durability and in the case of some toys to even get them at all like Ravage and rumble plus the later repaints.

Also Japan tends to have toy lines that have very little in the way of repaints of toys that are not featured in the show and while I can see many thinking that that could be a good think I'm quite happy to see repaints if it means getting toys like Energon Sharkticon, Slug slinger and Cyb downshift to name but a few

from vieweing the package. I can see gold metalized vacumized chrome paint. So I guess Takara didn't get rid of the chrome paint after-all.

I prefer the Takara one as it looks more like the comic to me with more blue and the black dead eyes he almost always has.

Looks to be the same gold paint on the Hasbro release to me (maybe slightly more gold than copper).

From what I can tell, both colour schemes (except for Hasbro's yellow eyes) are comic-accurate. Generations Darkmount is based on Marvel issue 17's interiors, while United Straxus is based on the cover for Marvel issue 18, where he's almost entirely blue

As nice as the black, dead eyes are, I have to admit I do not like United Straxus and his sky blue in place of the red. I like my Darkmount better because of how his red contrasts with the blue and makes his design and colors pop out to anybody looking at him as a result.

Could just be the angle of the light hitting the gold, as looking at my Hasbro Darkmount the gold paint is shiny already.

Mmm nice...I do second the "What is it with Takara and the Animated cards" question though.

Collected Henkei and Classics in the past, but will probably stick to the Hasbro series and skip Takara's for now based on a tight 2011 budget. Not a fan of the front of the United card, but the contents are intriguing.

I like that paint job and that the package says "Straxus," but I'm fine with the US version, too.

It's like they got a deal on pre-cut cardboard or something. :)

This is the first time where some of the Hasbro versions are beating the Takara verisons. No liking this one.
