I remember kobayahsi saying magnus was only a head taller than MP-10. I wonder if both designers are wrong or if the pic is off.

Hell yeah... puhlease turn God Ginrai ( or alternatively.... Overlord) into fruition !!! A MP figure will a decent base mode is highly desirable .

In back to back pic chris posted (envious of your Star Saber, chris  ), Star Saber does seem taller. Yukisan did say SS was only slightly taller than UM and Kobayashisan implied UM's height was a bit taller (than MP-10, I guess, but he didn't specify)
I suppose it depends on their perspective of what is "a bit" or "slightly", because UM looks huge in that shot with MP-10.

Apparently Wheeljack's release has been postponed, so TakTom is more into delivering a high quality product than meeting a deadline.
(Being a Japanese I know how hard this change must have been! )

As for the "gimmicks" - that's the word they use and I usually leave it as is. In this case I took it as he was referring to Brainmaster gimmick, but you never know. MP Star Saber might come with a button....you press it and he shouts "LET'S SAY GO!!!!"
(if that happens, folks, remember I called it first)

No one can give MP-5 shit anymore now :D  If this guy was given more time who knows what level of awesomeness he could have achieved with Megatron. Just seeing Star saber has already given me comfort in seeing what he'll design after. Especially when he's interested in God ginrai

I've just taken a look at the UM page in the guide book, for what's its worth, the caption says "2 heads taller"

...or if he says BATTLE UP! every time the helmet goes on :rock

Yeah, I'd probably wear the button out and have to replace the electronics every year.

I could be completely wrong, but I took that to mean that he started at the same size as the original and wound up going to roughly UM's size - not a huge leap and technically still "roughly" the size of the original.

    *edit again*
Yuki just tweeted this size comparison

my horrible Translate element: In TF Expo, I will prototype exhibition of MP Star Saber. So, you answerable to one of the now, but we are saying the size of the MP Star Saber is not much different from the original toy in magazines, etc., but when compared with the full-length, It is a big fine. Please do not be surprised to see at the venue

I just posted in the MP SS thread, yeah he's backtracking a bit....

"though I commented MP Star Saber is about the same size as the original, his whole length is quite large. Don't be surprised at the expo!"

Given that and the pics, it seems like SS will be about the same height as Magnus, the helmet antennae will probably around the same height but Star Saber won't look as bulky as Magnus does.

It's all insignificant to me, it sounds like the alt modes will be impressive and this is going to live up to the Masterpiece title either way.

Dude! He's HUGE! I wouldn't be surprised if he's still $200 or less based on Ultra Magnus. After this, TT needs to get this man on either Deathsaurus or God Ginrai next.

The pic is actually not that great. Low angle to the figure. The camera needs to be perpendicular to the figures, which it doesn't appear to be. I think he'll be even taller than he seems here. That boy's a MONSTER!

I've decided to include japanese characters into my MP collection based on this figure. Just order Soundblaster. Can't wait to display these two together.

A lower camera angle makes it look taller. Adjusting it to perpendicular will make the MP look smaller, not larger.

No, the low angle causes some mild foreshortening and that he's in the background behind the G1 toy it actually makes him look smaller. This guy's huge. A shot of them side by side would be the most accurate way to compare.
