I haven't checked, but would it be cheaper for me, in Japan, to just order the US versions of POTP figures from BBTS instead of Amazon Japan? If the releases are identical, I want to vote with my wallet. Also, I am worried if "better" versions come out (shortly) later, as I would feel that I had been effectively conned by TT...

Masking tape will be needed. I don't see the problem. Very simple. Even for a beginner.

I just took apart a TR voyager Megatron for my Flywheels custom. Now that is an advanced pain in the ass with pins & a spring mechanism. A full repaint is very difficult. But just putting on a coat of red paint to a few parts of Dreadwind is nothing.

If you're not into customizing why not try it out? Start with small easy projects like repainting a gun or accessory 1 solid color & then work up from there. Keep learning! Painting is really basic & easy to learn.

Honestly I figured that would've been a gimme, they were prominent cartoon characters and the US versions weren't released there as I recall.

    Exactly my sentiments.

Legends Galvatron is one of my favorite figures and I personally couldn't stand the Hasbro version. It's always been nice to have options and seeing where that line was for everyone; CHUG Smokescreen for example.

It also allowed for some minor diversification, Legends Scourge commanding a sweep force of Hasbro scourges.

Or the extras and changes that made it worthwhile, Targetmaster Hot Rod against regular Hot Rod for example.

For most of the lines, there was always that one figure or two that I'd get from Takara for whatever reason; they weren't released here, they were released with a much more appealing deco, or what have you.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping for a retool of Starscream as Leozack, a retool of Beachcomber as Jallgar, and the Liokaiser limbs as a nice set. Even more would be nice, but with what was there, I would've been happy with that.

Bummed about the (likely) choice against Buster and Hydra. Also bummed about the (likely) decision to skip UW2.0. On the plus side, it should be easy enough to grab the Takara versions of anyone that's short-packed and hard to get from Hasbro (Firestar!!!).

I wanted to complete my TakaraTOMY Legends set, and call it a day because I am running out of space.

However, as a Classics collector since the TakaraTOMY Henkei! Henkei! toy line came out, the obvious gaps in my collection were mainly the Dinobots, Abominus, and Predaking; Arguably Omega Supreme and Scorponok too, but I can live without them.

While I am reluctantly fine with TakaraTOMY releasing the same toys as Hasbro, I HATE STICKERS!!! What were they thinking?! Especially because I have OCD AND sweaty palms; I cannot handle stickers at all. I guess I will save more money this year.

Yeah. Just mask off the tiny details on Blackwing's rubbery tailfins and spray them red. There's absolutely no way that that paint will crack.... Mask off the detailed designs on Dreadwind's wings and do the same. Easy peasy. o_O

Takara, I am disappoint. There goes my interstellar Galvatronus*. :(

*Cyclonus, Dreadwind, Darkwing, Buster, Hydra. Dreadwing was shown to have spaceflight capability in Marvel #52. Presumably Darkwings could do the same.

That`s a very good question . I am stumped here , releasing Dreadwind and blacklwing in Japan is like not releasing them here , but instead releasing Hydra and Buster .... We can only hope they find their way out into the market some how.

I guess so much for a "Unite Warriors 2.0" line. At least from a personal financial point of view, I'll have less temptation to import and can save a little money. The one little drawback though was I one of the fans hoping to see Takara do their own take on Liokaiser with perhaps the POTP Starscream as the torso. The news doesn't completely rule them out I guess because even though they are "unifying the brands" it doesnt mean Takara couldnt still have a few unique releases in their POTP line as exclusives like Hasbro does but at this point, Im not holding my breath.

That\'s just straight-up disappointing. Does anyone know what the Japanese community thinks of all this?

On a positive note, maybe this means Hasbro is taking cues from Takara to a degree? We are supposedly getting shuttle Blast-Off, and Warden said patience might be warranted when it comes to a God Bomber release. By this I mean maybe the unity includes more Takara influence. It's hard for me to look at much of PotP and think about how it could be better aside from more remolding on the Dreadwing guys and paint in place of stickers...or at least better stickers.

We could still get that. I was hoping for a six-bot integration into Liokaiser, more remolding (particularly on the tanks), Liokaisers real weapon, and animal partners. God, Breastforce is a good team.

    1. Not necessarily because it costs the more to import them from the US than just waiting (and it's usually cheaper for me to buy Japanese Transformers here in New Zealand so I wait for the Japanese releases over the Hasbro releases personally - anecdotal but the point is that your scenario isn't a given). The amount of people forgoing these figures due to the lack of Legends-like releases is relatively small compared to those who will keep buying them anyway.

    2. Also not necessarily true, especially for those of us who can get them cheaper that way (or easier - remember scalping is still a thing so more suppliers on an international level is always good).

Whilst it's disappointing, I think everyone is jumping to conclusions of this being a nail in the coffin for TakaraTomy, so to speak, but I really don't think that's the case. I honestly don't think it'll make much of a difference at all. I also doubt we're done with ever seeing different things come out of TakaraTomy again - they might know have shown anything different off yet but we could still potentially get some new repaints or box sets or whatever.
Keep in mind that they've done this with movie figures forever now and it hasn't really been a problem.

I could be wrong about all of this but we'll see - I have a feeling people are loosing their minds over nothing.

As was I. Maybe a bonus Prime Master thrown in to resemble Buster and Hydra. Total letdown. Like others have said, it's money saved and I won't be buying any versions of some of these now, but I would have liked to see souped up TakaraTomy releases instead of straight Hasbro ones.

I guess my total PotP buy list is still at about 14 figures. With almost all of those Prime Masters, I will be spending a fraction of what I did n 2017.

It's not like there's no precident for it to happen that way round, Black Shadow has had 2 Generations toys in Hasbro markets whereas Takara have released none.

What I'm wondering about are TR moulds that Takara Tomy haven't released yet like Grotusque, though with his exclusive nature and upped paint apps he's like a Tomy release anyway.

I'm bummed out about Buster and Hydra, but I'll just get Hasbro versions and paint them myself.

Oh well, ultimately it's money saved through not double dipping which can only be a good thing for my wallet, POTP deluxes have been disappointing compared to TR anyway

Huge disappointment, a UW cartoon accurate dinobot set was my most anticipated thing this year. Shattered. If Hasbro truly is responsible for the POTP carryover, I am now angry where I was disappointed before.
