Why? He doesn't own the performance and very unlikely he has any say or royalty structure for it either. He was just a run of the mill voice actor doing TV cartoons. They could just reuse existing performances.

He may not be entitled to royalties from those performances, depending on his contract, but Hasbro owns those recordings (since they acquired them from Sunbow/Rhino/Sony Wonder) and the recordings would need to be licensed. Further, SAG and AFTRA contracts require written permission from all featured performers before licensing can be granted.

So they may not need to pay him, but they do need his permission. And if I were him, I would only grant permission upon payment ;) .

TT wouldn't use audio from cartoon. All the recent voice gimmicks were newly recorded.

Some ko company edited the cartoon audio for mp36 canon and the quality wasn't decent.

They never released any of the Inferno moulds either. But then again Prime is different from the supporting characters.

As a matter of fact, have they released anything after Bumblebee? Yeah, I don't think Hasbro is releasing this, other than just slapping a Hasbro slipcover over the Takara version.

Honestly I am not bothered if Hasbro were to release this cheaper later on. So what.

This makes me still think I should get another Megatron to keep in box. But there is really no point since that are not that type of collector items.

That's actor contracts TODAY. How about the union contracts from 1984? The rights of performers have expanded GREATLY since the 80s... and why performances were always so monetized in the past, but now getting individual performers to bless new licensing deals is a lot harder. It used to be as part of their performance, actors would be required to participate in other promotion and not have control over the performance. Residuals and all would happen, but not authoritative control. And especially voice actors here in animation - which is not the same as live action. Do we even know if the Sunbow/Marvel production was a union one? There are no guild references at all in the credit rolls of Season1, for producers or directors either. And I don't believe the shows were produced in LA either (Marvel was NY based as was Sunbow).

You know what would be even more ironic? A straight Hasbro relabeling and direct Japanese MP44 import with Japanese voice clips. :D

The 70s weren't the only decade that bell bottoms were in fashion, the early 80s had tons of it. Look at the first few seasons of 3s company.. Jack tripper had bells all along, it wasn't until the 85-87s that more tapered looks came into play.

I need some advice guys. I already paid for my preorder from anime export, and hoping that the shipping cost won’t be more than $30. They agreed to lower the value of the toys for customs purposes so maybe I won’t take a hit on that. Now looking at amazon japan, he is the same price with free shipping, but they charge the custom fees up front. Should I cancel my order with Anime export and go Amazon Japan? Sorry if it’s a dumb question, but I’ve never ordered through amazon Japan before and didn’t even know they charge the import fees up front. Which do you guys think is the better option?
