And they look awesome this time!

 

Vader looks infinitely better than any of the previous SWTFs already. Hope this isn't just a one-off and more figures are coming down the line. I just want a Han and Chewie.

 

Price indicates voyager or very close. 5800 yen is a little more than what the TLK voyagers retail for.

We were literally just discussing this a few days ago in that prototype Iron Man thread!!

And now we're actually getting crossovers 2.0, and the vehicles STILL turn into robotic Star Wars characters instead of actual Transformers characters??? Ugggggghhhhh.

That Tie should be Megatron!!!

 

Yeah, I never quite got why they apparently have not yet thought of this? It would be a pretty seamless integration of the robots in disguise concept with the Star Wars universe. Imagine this thing as Megatron, an X-Wing into Windblade, Ultra Magnus as a walker, etc. It's like a goldmine. They can even keep the miniature Star Wars characters to help sell the idea of giant robots hiding in plain sight within the galaxy.

 

But this is a Takara release! IIRC the old SWTFs were done solely by Hasbro which is why they were kinda shit.

 

I like the idea of Star Wars Transformers, but I generally haven't been too impressed by the execution. The only ones I got were the Darth Vader/Death Star and Millienium Falcon/Han Solo/Chewbacca.

This one doesn't look too bad, and yeah, Cybertronians disguised as Star Wars vehicles and ships is a cool idea.

The Darth Vader Transformers up above was shown as a Japenese Toy fair but no one knew it was a Transformers because it was only in vehicle mode and next to it was a picture of the Millienium Falcon.

 

I still have the original release of this and the Supreme Class Vader/Death Star figure!

 

Walp, I'm sort of divided on this. On one hand, that looks like a massive improvement over the horribly clumsy engineering of the original Crossovers line, but on the other hand, the robot sort of fails to capture the essence of a Darth Vader design. The shoulders are way too wide and there appears to be far too much visual weight on his chest, whic means it feels more buffy and "mecha-ish" rather than naturally anthropomorphic, and it doesn't help that they're not using the TIE wings to simulate a cape either. And yeah, I can never get over the fact thay we're getting a tiny Darth Vader whose ship transforms into a larger version of him either, it would make more sense if these were all Transformers characters with Star Wars alt-modes.

Still, if the figure itself turns out to be good regardless:

 

If they can pull off General Grievous better than the last one I'm down, I agree with what people are saying about the robot modes looking like cos-play, but it's not as noticeable when it's a character who wears a helmet or is a droid maybe.

 

That TIE Advanced should be Galvatron. There should be Sweep TIE fighters. A fuck-off massive Star Destroyer-Trypticon should be deploying them. But no, a big, dumb, stupid Vader turning into his own ship. Sure.

 

That looks to me to be the same old Vader toy... Or if not, it still seems to transform the same way.
They could have at least tried to maybe make the wings articulated and combine into a cape of sorts rather than just be arm shields.
