Again SyFy? They did the same thing when they canceled Stargate Universe! Can't say I'm surprised though... The channel has really gone downhill ever since they changed the name to "SyFy". And they're only making it worst by introducing more and more "reality" programming while axing their most popular sci-fi shows.
Soon I'll have no reason to watch that channel (I don't like the new spelling of the name), as Eureka is the only show I actively watch there.
First MTV, then Cartoon Network, then G4, then Nickelodeon, now SyFy. See, this is the reason why I barely watch TV any more; there's nothing on.
That's the cycle. Networks don't want to spend money, cancel more expensive shows and make cutbacks to make way for cheaper shows, then when people don't watch the cheaper shows, blame it on the audience and piracy. Then said Network Executives jump ship with their golden parachutes and praise for cutting the expenses of a network down, but wonder why the Internet is kicking TV's ass.
This is crappy news..wtg syfy..The stupidity started with the name change and the killing off Stargate series, all of them. That's what first brought me to the channel as well as the early a.m. anime. Can't stand the wrestling and the so called reality show..Ghost hunters, please what a load of bs. And cooking a la syfy? No way. Guess I'll have to hold on to Whse 13 and Haven until they finally cancel them too.
I agree totally. The presence of the reality shows has really lowered the bar programming wise. a sci fi show has to have near perfect ratings to justify the cost while the reality shows are cheaper and can survive on lower ratings. The same crap has happened to the history channel.
MTV has no reason to be called MTV,there is almost no music on it. I haven't watched it in years(though new Bevis and Butthead has me tempted)Cartoon network is borderline, it could go either way, just when I think it's dead to me shows like Clone Wars, Thundercats, and young justice show up. G4 is almost gone, but shows like AOTS, and x-play keep it from flatlineing, Nickelodian has always had live shows and really hasn't lost the fact that it's a kids network, we still get good shows like Avatar. SyFy is dying slowly. Only time will tell if it can beat the cancer that is it's executives. But if TV continues like this, yes there is no way they will be able to compete with the internet.
At least BBCA has some decent scifi and with Torchwood moving to Stars its been really good so far this season. Falling Skies has been ok, but not as good as I hoped. They seem to have a fairly limited budget but hopefully they can do more next year. Hoping Tera Nova survives a few seasons.
Not Eureka... It's one of my favorite TV shows, of all time. No joke. Only a handful of shows have I truly loved and never missed, and Eureka was one of them. I mean, I watch TV, and I watch shows that are entertaining, but most are forgettable. Eureka's one of those shows that sticks with you.
I'm afraid to even start watching a show on SyFy anymore for fear that they will cancel it out of nowhere and leave me hanging. I was really into all the Stargate series and was really getting invested in Universe when they pulled the plug. This was my favorite station to watch when I was in college and I would love the Stargate mini-marathons, the mini-series like BSG and Dune and the brand new eps on Friday nights. Now, there is nothing to watch and no reason to ever visit that station again. Seriously, I might watch some of the shows, but why bother, they are just going to randomly cancel them anyway.
Sci Fi Channel. Essentially, they just replaced the two "i" letters with two "y" letters to make it read cooler.
Should I stop watching Alphas then? I'd hate to get into a show only to have it be canceled. I'm looking at you ABC with Eli Stone.
You could do that, but think of it this way. At the very least, you're getting to watch the current episodes of a show that you're into. If you stop watching it now because you think it might not be carried out in full, all you're really doing is denying yourself even more of the series than you normally would have. That was my thought process when it came to Defying Gravity & several others, anyway.
