Looks fantastic. Always liked this version better than MMC version. Don't really mind that the alt. mode isn't all that great, he'll be in robot mode most of the time anyways.

I wish he was maybe a little bit smaller just because I do have a primarily deluxe sized collection of MTMTE figures but he'll do. Hopefully MMC and X2Toys will start to make more IDW characters and we can have a whole Lost Light cast in one size.

Really looking forward to the final colors on this.

I'm amazed at how the robot mode is completely devoid of kibble and yet the vehicle doesn't obviously look like a folded up robot. I can't wait to see this thing with some paint on it!

 

Yeah this one nails the IDW look for me, total win all around.

 

It was never much of a competition for me between this and MMCs because I'm such a big Roddy fan that I just took it as a given that I would buy both, even though MMCs is a 'close enough I guess' affair whereas this one is 'holy crap it's perfect'.

But with the latest photos the gap between the two continues to widen and I think I'm really leaning towards skipping MMCs totally.

Proportion-wise this looks much better than MMC's version already. I just wish it was Deluxe-size since a Voyager IDW Rodimus is completely out of scale.

I need to see some reviews of the finished product...sxs doesn't seem to have a stellar track record, although their blurr was pretty good.

 

I like the face, but the helmet seems too tall or perhaps too narrow. I eagerly await more shots.

 

Definitely the most successful take on IDW Rodimus so far. They really captured the character! That sleek, kibble-free bot mode is very impressive; looks more like an action figure than a transformer. But it actually manages to turn into a passable vehicle!

Looking forward to seeing the final product all painted up!

Not a biggest Rodimus fan but I have to admit the likeness to the IDW character is uncanny with the proportions. Alt mode ain't bad either, being a slimmer, more colorful version of Batman's Tumbler, almost.

I have various SXS upgrade kits, and the only full figure I have from them is Overclocking (which is a neat take on Blurr; solidly built and engineered figure with a somewhat finicky/intricate transformation scheme so I can expect the same with Hot Flame).

 

I was in the same boat for a while then I said to myself "Even if you can afford both do you need them both?" The answer was "No" so I canned my MMC preorder an decided to ride out with SXS.

So, I think I'll get SXS as Rodimus and may(or not) get another retool from MMC.

SXS was more toon accurate than MMC. glad we have option to choose.
Wish MMC will step up their game. latest release from them (Roadbuster / Cyclonus) was half G1 / IDW, so not IDW accurate. and have a big design flaw beyond my expected.
Their Overlord / Tarn was rock. and in the past I always said : "Event this is not IDW accurate enough , but I trust MMC will come with better tolerance / quality / build / playalibity "
but after receive their Cyclonus and Roadbuster...... I can't said this above line anymore... I cancel my plan for their whirl because I didn't like a look and I think I'll not like him in hand more than CHUG one.
Hope this competing will step up both company's gear.

Yep, this is the definitive mtmte rodimus. While I will get Calidus as well, it's just an approximation, this one is perfect.

Really want to see him in full paint to compete with MMC.
