I'm thinking about a possible project for a non-transformable figure, but I would need a good base to work from. Is there a big-sized Gundam/Macross etc figure at about 30-40 centimeters that won't cost me an arm and a leg? (i e, about $50) Maybe a KO of some fairly posable figure? Anyone know?

There are the 1/60 scale (non-PG) models, that stand around 12"/30cm tall.

Strike Gundam (barebones or Striker System)
    Freedom Gundam
    Force Impulse Gundam
    Gundam Exia

Should all be readily available, depending on where you look. They're not too expensive, maybe around $40-50. They are models, however, not toys, so they won't likely withstand the rigors of rough play or what have you.

    PG's are around 30cm? I would've thought MG's were close to that...

At any rate, yeah, stay away from PG's if you want to stay away from high cost.
