Steel was introduced with a different origin in Superman, though. And Doomsday was used during JL and JLU, again with a different story. I think this might be done out of continuity with those series, much like that Brainiac movie. At any rate, regardless of how it fits in, it looks awesome. Seems as though it does the story justice. The Black Superman suit is in there too which is great, looks like we might get Reign as well. If it is an hour and a half long, I bet the setup with be about twenty minutes, twenty minutes of Doomsday fight, then the rest would be the Reign of the Supermen, slightly modified (since I cannot see how Eradicator and Henshaw can both be explained away in the time provided, judging by the shuttle coming down, I would say we are getting Henshaw though)
From what I read (over at Newsarama I think) is though this is made by Timm and company, this is completely separate from JL/JLU and all the other previous Timmiverse releases. So there shouldn't be any JLA, at the funeral, and there won't be any reign of the supermen after Superman dies.
the rationale for no JLA is fine for the movie since they're doing it self contained. Losing Superman is a big deal, but they wanted to emphasize that in the movie but not making you think "well at least theres all these other heroes to help!"
yep. Don't forget, when it happened in the early 90's, this was the biggest story on all the media outlets. This had massive coverage. People who had never touched a comic book were picking it up. Once it hit, the back issues leading up to it were impossible to find, hence everyone picking up the graphic novel.
I loved the shockwaves when they punch. The description of sonic booms from their blows in the comic is one of my favorite over-the-top bits ever.
Yeah. New continuity, new character models, new actors. At Wondercon, Bruce Timm explained that the hiring of new actors wasn't out of displeasure at the other actors, but that he wanted this to be a standalone movie without any preceding continuity. So to the previous few people who were wondering how this fits into the JLU puzzle: it doesn't.
it still makes me wonder if, any of the justice league will make an appearnce, especially at his "funeral".
Thanks for the post! Can't believe that I missed this thread...and I'm glad the animation style is similar to JL!
NICE! Thanks for that! So they show Supes with the long hair in the black costume...does this mean the DVD will span the entire Death, Reign, and Return story arcs?
Seems WB asked that the video be taken down since it was leaked early... but the official website has just been launched with a little behind the scenes clip! check it out! http://www.warnervideo.com/supermandoomsdaydvd/
