So after finishing Devastator I kept looking at TFC Uranos and thinking that he could really benefit from a similar mod giving him more in proportion torso, waist and thighs at around 16/17" to the top of the head but using the TFC limbs so make him be able to de-combine and after going back and forward I've decided to do it. Torso is pretty much done. The chest plate, waist plate and knee guards just need permanently fixing in place but I don't really want to do that until I have at least the arms in place so I know it is all big enough. I was originally going to use the chest plate from the Wings upgrade set but after looking in my parts box thought I might be able to have a crack at scratch building with a more G1 look/colour as a whole and here he is so far: I've attached Exgraver to the shoulder to try and get a sense of where to best put the combiner port. This should be relatively quick once I get the limbs (first two should arrive Monday) as most of the torso is pretty much done now and just needs fixing permanently in place. Cheers fellas! I've done six all together but Menasor and Defensor were a while back now and although I could do better now I'll be waiting for Warbotron to do those two. Predaking is definitely in my sights when Superion is done, although there is no rush with him really seeing as Rampage and the big back guns I'm getting off someone aren't out until August but I will crack on with his torso soon: IIRC Uranos's legs are slightly taller than Hercs so I think Superion will be a bit taller.....which is a nice side affect!
OMG Tigerblade thank you! Ive had the idea to do this for months now and all the parts but wasn't sure if it would ever look right or be a waste of time. I think this is the best route. Trying to "fix" Blackbird into a bigger figure would be too complicated for me to finish, but a torso? and a G1 repaint to get rid of the ridiculous colors of TFC I can do. Don't be surprised when you get them that you feel the need to alter the arms now, thats the other snag I keep hitting, yes we can make a torso, but it creates other problems, potentially. Hopefully everything works together and this isnt another issue
That is a MP Scorponok face lol, didn't realise he had snuck in! The arms are the same length as Hercs at full extension so it should be ok....maybe a smidgen too short but that is far better than gorilla arms the original torso has. Smallish update: Compared to the old pic you can see he will tower over the Autobots. I'm guessing MP10 will be just under his waist so should look nice scale wise.
Looking good! One other question...if you don't mind, I see that you "melded" the Starscream Thighs with Unicron's knee, does that swivel joint from Unicron fit into the energon ports? Or do you have a different "plug" to replace those?
Cheers guys. As stock no but they can be modded to fit. You could also cut those off and use some Shapeways extenders in their place too that are already the correct male port size.
Update time. Arm looks spot on to me, Smokescreen there for size reference. Next update will be the finished article! Edit - Added a clearer scale shot with MP10: Not sure whether I should bring the shoulder connector in a bit or not.....
I kinda prefer how it looks farther out. Adds to the silhouette. But I leave MP10s arms pulled out for the same reason, so that's just me. =)
