So is Sunstorm supposed to be a Decepticon or just his own faction?

I'm talking about G1/War Within universe in the comics.

we dont know what he was meant to be. he seemed to be faction-less though.

I had thought of him as by himself.

I consider him a renegade who hates everyone, but still a Decepticon at the core of him. Kind of like what would have happened to Starscream if he finally went completely mad and was super-powered juiced up on energy.

I reckon he's a Decepticon being powered by Vector Sigma doing it's work.
So he goes about it in a very Decepticon-y way.

Would he still have decepticon faction symbols then?

I'm thinking of doing a Sunstorm custom and want him to be accurate.

he didnt have faction symbols in the Dreamwave comic, but every single toy version of him (G1 ehobby, Universe, Heroes of Cybertron, Legends of Cybertron, Titanium) has had Con symbols

Unicron has always been put out in Decepticon packaging and I wouldn’t call him a Con.

    Ebay:
Armada wasnt decepticon packaging, and I would bet neither was energon(though i dont own that version). In fact, deluxe unicron was the only one, and there wasnt much other choice, it would have been wrong to put his picture on the same side of the bubble that the good guys had; after all he is more evil than good(albeit the decepticon logos werent neccessary)

    I'con:

They weren't quite the same, though. As has been mentioned, Starscream did
actually do this when he absorbed the Underbase, but where Starscream was
simply motivated by his craving for power, Sunstorm was a drastically
misguided religious zealot; he thought he was the chosen of Primus. If you
were somehow able to ask them both what their motivation was, Starscream
might say "I desire to crush everyone because I must rule them all", and
Sunstorm might say "I must crush everyone because Primus told me to."
