Hello there. I think we all know that white Transformers in general are prone to sun-fading and/or yellowing such as Jetfire and possibly Metroplex. I am curious as to which Transformers are sun resistant? Reason I want to know is, as my collection grows, I am running out of room in my bedroom. I will eventually be forced to place some of my figures in direct sunlight. So, who can last longer in the sun? And other than the obvious ones, who should not be in the sun?
I don't think any color TF is sun resistant. The darker colored toys are just able to mask the damage better.
I know direct sunlight might do some damage. But what about heat and humidity without direct sunlight?
i let my tf get covered in a layer of dust then i place them on the window sills. its like sunblock but not.
One reason I keep all my G1's and MP's etc, in a cold dark closet for the moment. BRIGHT LIGHT BRIGHT LIGHT!!! I treat them like Gizmo My collection's not much, but I try to get the best Minty G1's I can for the cash. I'll post pics when my room's refinished and I have a nice cabinet or two to keep them dust free. My new room will be DARK and RED! Dimmer lighting equipped! My blinds will be dark and foil lined = no light in my computer room unless I raise them.
man it is a daily struggle to protect my fort max from the evil light which reminds me of a funny joke:it was my graduation night, and my sister was smoking a little too close to the house, and the door was wide open smoke filled the room and i coughed and my brother goes, "man she needs to get further away the wind is sending the smoke at us" i say, "i agree, i can just hear fort max yellowing as we speak" lets just say he almost died laughing
If anyone has a few junker Animated TF's to send me, they can sit on my windowsill to protect my G1's when I do actually raise the blinds I'll even take pics of the junkers getting fried in the sun with a shout out to ya'.
why would you do that to animated toys? they don't deserve such punishment, they are awesome get some beast machine toys instead
Oh man, I feel ya'. Not even family smokes at my house. I always say: Go get in your new car and smoke! Fort Max is worth more to me than your car is to you!
I've seen a Brave Max with sun-damage so severe that the parts of him affected had turned a shade closer to white. Then again, My G1 Seaspray is perfectly fine - except for some slight yellowing underneath his feet. Explain that...
There are actually two types of yellowing to take into account. Obviously, UV damage can cause yellowing, but you know simple glass filters out most uV? The second is yellowing caused by a chemical reaction between the plastic itself and the air. This is much harder to prevent, and is often mistaken for sun damage because he heat of the sun shining on your toy increases the rate of reaction.
No, no, no. That was Bumblbee who was custom faded. I've got one window with blinds, but the sun still shows through. If you have a look at my recent post in my collection thread, you can see where my Metroplex and Trypticon still get sunlight even with the blinds closed. My other window, where I was planning on displaying my Masterpiece seekers, has no shade. As for being in a dark cool basement, I don't have that option. All I got is my bedroom.
We just have to ask Hasbro to make us a nice figure named 'Sunscreen'. And a new Smokescreen that's resistant to smoke discolouration. Perhaps it could be a new line-wide gimmick: figures that change colour in the sun. Back-dating it to include all the old TF that already do so.
How about transparent figures? How are they effected by the sun? Example, any of the Starscream's Ghost molds.
