So the past couple movies have taken darker tones with humor laced throughout, but there is always the impression that these movies are generally comedic, but the battle between the bots and cons is very serious. So the movie starts out, cringe pre-teen flirting but we see shots of destruction etc. OP is in stasis, decaying. Sense of doom and gloom. Then we get Megatron who apparently isn't even evil anymore because he is fine bargaining with humans instead of just killing them all. Then we get… the Suicide Squad intro? I just feel like there were major tonal shifts in this movie that, for me at least, made it feel very strange to consider it a Transformers movie. It just felt off like I mentioned in my review. Anyone feel similarly, or is this just me?
Not just you, I felt the same way. The Suicide Squad intro felt like it belonged in a different movie. And the apocalypse laced with silly humor and flirting does not go together.
No, you're right. It's absolutely schizophrenic with its tone, yet for some reason it worked for me. None of the humor seemed out of place because they weren't really joking at inopportune times. For the most part, it was jokey when it could be, but it was also serious when it needed to be.
Yeah, even though I gave the movie a meh review I still find myself liking it. It'd definitely benefit from a consistent tone though.
I loved the new Decepticons, even with their limited screen time lol. And I loved the Suicide Squad-type intro for them (but I also really enjoyed that movie).
I enjoyed the Intro. I found it pretty funny and it was cool to actually be introduced to the cons this time. Even if only for a short amount of time for a couple of them. Nitro Zeus was my favorite con
Out of the few moments that made me go, 'yeah, that's neat,' was when we see them in a group. It feels like we haven't had an actual Decepticon 'grouping' in so long.
I think Jablonsky should've brought back the Decepticon theme from TF1 for Megatron's introduction and the introduction of the Decepticons. I mean he brought back the Autobot theme towards the end, it would've been nice to have the Decepticon theme come back too instead of emulating a Suicide Squad feeling.
Here's the thing though, if the world is really ending you might as well chat up the pretty girl. What's there to lose at that point?
