Working on my autobot X custom. He's a very odd scale, I'm using SWTF Darth Vadar as the base. it's about 10" tall, not really a ultra nor leader class, not sure if it's in a class.

wondering if anyone's got a suggestion for the head? I want to build off or modify from a humanoid type face, but about 20% larger than a Alternator head...

I think an Alternator would work maybe Prowl, since he has one of those forehead crest projections, but still thats what I got.

Tried that already, too small. I need it slightly larger than that. Might hit up TRU later today, see what they got.

you need an ultra sized head I do believe. kinda limits your selection. I think you'll need to do a lot of modifying to whatever you use.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Swept all of TRU finding nothing. I do think I will use a GI joe sigma six head, with lots of modding....

The only thing that come to mind is maybe the inside face of the Energon Omega Supreme maybe find just the mini-bot/head by itself and build off the face maybe. Sounds like a lot of work thou.

I actually already tried that, but thanks.

Trying to find a suitable Porsche model in either 1:16 or 1:18 scale for the left chest. They are effin expensive. I wish they sold just the front lol. I will trash the rest of the model with all that beautiful detail...

Idea: buy one of those kits, then make a mold of just the front and cast a copy that you can trash. That way you could either keep the model intact or just sell it on eBay to recoup the price.

nevermind, I just made one using a plastic hydraulic looking part and cut it, then glued 1 end of a rivot pin into one half, and drilled a long hole into the other half. ;)

How's about decapitating one of those bust statuettes. May work out scalewise, and I think most are made of resin.

    Here's a few examples:
TRANSFORMERS MOVIE G1 IRONHIDE BUST ART ASYLUM DS TOYS - eBay (item 230335605718 end time Apr-12-09 20:09:24 PDT)

TRANSFORMERS MOVIE G1 JETFIRE BUST ART ASYLUM DS TOYS - eBay (item 330320215638 end time Apr-12-09 19:14:28 PDT)

AAnd a bit more abstract, but very cool in a "Transmutate" kinda way:

JUDGE DREDD ABC Robot 1/9 FIGURE VINYL Model Kit !! - eBay (item 180344371521 end time Apr-14-09 02:07:40 PDT)

*EDIT* Also you could Hydrospan a head. Good contenders IMO would be Uni Hound, Ironhide, and G1 Topspin or Twintwist.

It's really pricey for just parts, but Perfect Grade Gundam kits have hydrolic joints.

here's a look at the hydraulic I built:

Was important to allow maximum open and closed positions for the leg, meaning - the piston (on the inside or whatever that part is) is fully extended but still remains in the lower tube (slightly) while the leg is fully extended, and also - that the piston is 99% insode the lower tube when the knee is fully bent.

LOL, This is becoming my WIP thread. If a mod possibly can, maybe move to the appropriate section.

Anyway, the GI Joe Sigma Six head worked out great (I feel) it was the perfect size.

I hacked away the neck and base from the figure and attached that to the front of the torso, luckily it comes with a ball jointed head.

I began some sculpting work with the head. Added a larger top to the head, removed some details (like the cleg things on the upper lip and nostrils) I began cutting out the eyes for LED installation (he's gotta have led eyes!)

The softer type plastic (almost like a rubber) is hard to work with, not my normal medium. I will get the head to the point it resembles the base head, then cast it in resin (I find carving/refining resin an easier medium to work with)

Using the basic shape of the head I have now, I photoshopped some of the elements which will be added on after I finish the sculpt.

The eyes will be carved out and the head hollowed out, I will fill the back (inside) of the eye sockets with hot glue then paint them with a transparent blue. Next will install LED electronics inside the head.

Will use styrene for the details also.
