I'm sure that some people really do need meds for all these disorders. But I also think that drug companies and doctors are overprescribing drugs for them. ADD is the prime example of this. How many more kids take Ritalin than really need to to function.

I think at one point in time or another everyone has been pissed off over something that they would later classify as no big deal. Depending on the different circumstances and stimuli of a given day (or moment for that matter) ANYONE could fly into a rage...it's evolution...a reaction to outside forces to help protect you from harm...rage is environmental and circumstantial..it is not a disorder.

Now flying into a rage, killing twenty-nine people with a sharpened edge of a broken 45 record and stapling their corn-holes to your living room wall....THAT is a disorder. Definitely a chemical imbalance that would benefit from heavy medication..but I wouldn't call it Rage Disorder..just a bad way to respond to outside stimuli.

Well there's always that. However my reply was the stock one I give whenever I hear about somebody that has some new allergy or disorder.

Thats a big part of my rationale for why I think stuff like this is over-diagnosed. Then again, saying millions of Americans have some new disorder based on a survey goes way, way beyond simply over-diagnosing something.

Yes, but there is also a difference between a behavior problem and an actual chemical imbalance (in this case, low serotonin levels). In this case, people need medication.

I believe it, hell, I probably have it. I get super pissed sometimes about stupid, minor stuff.

Of course, I don't go into a flying rage and break stuff or hurt people. I just shake and swear under my breath until a vein pops on my forehead.

Then it's gone just like that. Odd. I'm a spaz.

    Gimme drugs!

Quite right. Theres people who legitimately have it (and are proven to have serotonin levels that run either way too high or way too low (hence the term "bi-polar"; its either one extreme or the other, with little time inbetween)) and then theres an assload of people out there just looking for excuses for their actions, mood altering drugs to play with, attention, or all of the above.
Some people go through quite a bit of testing before they're diagnosed with it, others apparently just answer a few questions and the doctors give them some drugs. Scizophrenia is a whole nother issue.
To my experience, someone being bi-polar is not necessarily going to make them abusive, at least not physically, to other people. And not that its anybody's business, but I allegedly have bi-polar disorder (being one of the people who had a bunch of tests and such before I was diagnosed with it).

I just find it funny a thread about Rage Disorder was started by The Incredible Hulk.

Personally I blame gamma rays from Microwaves.

    :lol  :lol  :lol

I get bloody furious over the tiniest things sometimes, it's unfathomable. I have broken things very dear to me (or expensive!) just because I got pissed at something which did 'not compute'. :(

Still, if *ANY* of you guys go as postal as this kid, I urge you to seek help immediately :lol  :lol

Can you imagine what he'll be like when he grows up? :p

I doubt he'll make it to adulthood; with that kind of rage his head will likely explode long before he finishes puberty.
