I received mine yesterday, from a mysterious seller on Ebay. Unfortunately, like Ironhide, his boxart is an ugly and photoshoped version of his slightly innacurate (because the head design is wrong, just like Ironhide) render from the first movie. One of my favorite molds so far, able to capture very well the form and the visual of the character, this Ratchet wins the first when the question is the harmony and the distribution of the colors. Green and light gray are much more pleasing to the eye than yellow, although I have criticisms about the painting: while the head has received a fine application, the lights on the shoulders and at the top of the vehicle mode have run out of paint (which has not happened in the first Ratchet). As @World Prime said, it would be much better if his gun integrates more to the arm, like it looks on screen. The way that I figured out to do it was placing it not on his hand, but in the same place where goes his sawblade. Unfortunately, the gun doesn't goes all the way in. If it did, I believe it would looks much better. But still a nice option. About the bad things, my copy came with loose joints at his upper thighs and a little, but proeminent, jag/notch at his right cheek. His head also is slightly too foward, what makes it a little annoying when spinning his torso. Strangely, his torso itself also has a strange operation, because the front grill doesn't spin completely separated from the main bod. Because of it, I need to rotate both pieces together when transforming him (which never happened with the first Ratchet). My last little complaint is about his upper arm joint, that came with the old problem of the pin being to big for the hole (this sounds silly). But, overall, a nice figure, very representative of the character.
I'm thinking of cutting off the gun peg and glueing it back on just a half cm farther forward. I haven't done it yet cause I'm not sure if the reglued peg would hold well enough but I think it would look a lot better and more like it was integrated into the arm. I noticed that when transforming him for the first time! I thought my copy was just extra tight or something but it seems like maybe they changed the transformation mechanism for some reason? Does it make it easier for kids to figure out or something? Or does it make it more stable? Seems like it's just restricting it more. As for paint I think the main part that looks really bad to me is the feet. They REALLY should have kept the silver on there. They look like something's seriously missing. At least with the headlights on the shoulders and stuff you could just pretend they're off or something, but the feet look so blank to me. I'm gonna paint them then call it a day with this guy (I've already added almost all the other paint apps I felt he was missing).
Saw this figure in person for the 1st time tonight. It looked bland in the renders but MUCH better in person. I considered getting it but held off for now.
New thread I see? I guess this probably should have happened a while ago. Thanks to whichever mod split the thread! That's what eventually convinced me. Seeing it in person makes the colors pop a lot more. Doesn't hurt that I just really love the SS packaging.
I got him partly for the gun and partly because I want to be a completionist with on screen characters/ decos. That said, he needs some weapons because Movie 1 Ratchet stole his! Paint wise he's better in some places and worse in others. The face paint is appreciated, but his feet are barren. I'm doing some touch up work on him, not to the extent of the previous figure but enough to fill in those missing details.
huh, so that's why the box art is so ugly. I have the deluxe boxes lined up and his art really stands out since it's not as good as the others.
Can’t believe they still use some of those old CGI renders. Some of the 07 renders are so damn ugly, inaccurate, and have goofy-ass poses to boot.
Exactly! Whoever made that doesn’t know how things move. It just helped people who hated the movie designs hate them even more.
ROTF Starscream also recycles old CGI art. Considering I bought Screamer and Ratchet together, it's rather fitting...
ROTF didn’t have great art either but it was still better than the 07 renders. Honestly I don’t think the promo art renders really got good until TLK haha
I picked this one up from target the other day. Always liked ratchet, in all forms. The 1st studio ratchet was great, this one? Honestly...may be better. The colors dont pop until it's in hand. Fantastic color choices and the alt mode is VERY nice looking. I had passed on this one so many times...I'm glad I finally picked it up. It's different enough to warrant the purchase, and looks good enough on it's own to maybe "display over here with lockdown.." type thing.
I'll definitely pick this guy up when I have the chance. These colors look much better than the '07 colors in my opinion.
I agree! Had very little intention of getting him, then I saw him in target one day but didn't buy him, then kept thinking about him til the next time I was in that target and caved.
