Who is the top dog in the ranks of the Decepticons? Not talking combiners here, casue everyone knows their strength is off the chart. I'm talking single decepticons-thru combined leadership, firepower, strength, cunning..etc., a list of 5-10 would do and why. I think this could be an interesting topic with some good opinions here.

Trypticon. Considering he's the size of Godzilla (100 Meters tall) and he's probably got more structural metal in his body than any version of Mechagodzilla, All Trypticon would need to do to usurp leadership over the decepticons is step on the lot of them and, boom, no more megatron, no more starscream, no more shockwave, soundwave, ratbat, galvatron or anyone.

    Fortunately, Trypticon isn't that smart.

Well, Schockwave survived completely burning up upon re-entry. That, and his bolts disintegrate entire guardian robots and he's got a strength stat of like ten.

I'd say Scorpinok. In the Marvel comics, he takes a hell of a beating, and keeps on fighting.

Lets not count Unicron because Techinically, he's not a Decepticon. He's Just Evil.

Going with IDW's fiction, the "Phase-sixers" are all very powerful:

    Overlord
    Sixshot
    Black Shadow

Then there's the guys that tend to be on the top of the power rankings, regardless of continuity, such as:

    Megatron
    Galvatron
    Shockwave
    Cyclonus
    Scorpinok
    Thunderwing

Have to agree with these. Plus add in Trypticon for his sheer size and power.

I agree with this list especially following the Marvel G1 comics. Megatron was a beast, taking down Predaking. Only time he was taken down was when he rushed into a fight with Shockwave who fully exploited his injuries.

In terms of pure strength (not other abilities), keeping it just to "regular size" Cons, and sticking to the original versions (since there is some variation between media) I'd put these guys on the list, not in any particular order...

    -Megatron (obvious reasons)
    -Shockwave
    -Sixshot
(both IDW, and his G1 Tech Specs put him at a 10)

    -Scorponok
He's always been depicted as being pretty powerful, even in comics media where he's not a giant. His Tech Specs gave him only 8 Strength, weirdly enough, but given the evidence I'd be willing to believe that's an error. Maybe his stats were swapped with Hun-Grr or something.

    -Galvatron
(most versions would qualify, though in the cartoons the question remains whether he had access to as much power once he was no longer linked with Unicron. Same for Cyclonus, whose Targetmaster stats only give him 9 Strength).

For their continuity-specific incarnations, I'd also say:
    -Jhiaxus (Marvel G2)
    -Overlord (IDW)

In 1987, there were a lot of guys listed with 10 Strength for some reason. It was an anomalous year in that sense, but for the sake of acknowledging them:
    -Hun-Grr
    -Apeface
    -Snapdragon
    -Skullcruncher

Bludgeon has never been all that physically strong. Thunderwing wasn't super-strong either, until his IDW incarnation... but I almost don't count that, since he's almost more of a plot device than a character.

If you go by original Trypticon, he's actually quite intelligent (a 7/10 according to his specs), and while being incredibly powerful, he was still matched by all 5 Dinobots working in unison. Bear in mind, that was a story written by the guy who invented Trypticon.

However, in the cartoons it was easier to use him as a city-sized Godzilla-former with cave-man intelligence, which I don't think was especially interesting. Remember, the cartoon is also pants-on-head retarded. Trypticon was made out of a HUMAN city, so hypothetically, half of him is made out of reinforced concrete and drywall. ;)

But yeah, either way, I'd still expect Trypticon to be in the top rung for raw strength.

If you go by his graph, he's almost ten. I tend to discard fractions when reading Tech Specs, but based on his depiction in the early Marvel comics, I figure 10 is close to accurate. He admitted that he was not as strong as Megatron, but he's obviously still in the same class.

If we're just talking raw power, Soundwave is not that strong. He's in the same range as strong guys like Blaster, Whirl, Hoist and Gears (in fact, Gears laid him out with one punch in the Marvel comics!), but he's not a true heavyweight like the others on this list.

I guess we never knew just how strong Straxus was. He was BIG, so I assume he was strong, but he may not be on the same level as those others you mention. However, if we're looking at Marvel-only characters, Jhiaxus would be pretty high on that list. He held his own against Megatron and Prime at the same time.

Overlord and Sixshot, certainly... I wonder if Black Shadow wields the same kind of power, or if he might be different. I've often wondered if Phase Sixers all express power in the same ways.
