With the current release, or is it rerelease, of Street Fighter 2 for XBOX 360, that just further reminded me of its never ending line of releases of and yet no new Street Fighter games in years. When will Capcom finally release a new Street Fighter game for the "next-gen" consoles instead of yet another version of Street Fighter 2.

And what is that now, are up to the 30th release of that game throughout all of the console and arcade appearances.

It's hightly doubtful they'll make one any time soon, the team that made their fighting games like that has pretty much been disbanded, from what I take it. Heck, the original creators of the SF series don't even work for Capcom anymore. Capcom will probably milk SF fans for all they're worth from now until the end of time.

Currently, the answer looks like "never". Until Capcom decides to make 2-D fighters again and remembers how to do it well, it's just not going to happen.

Apparently Capcom Fighting Jam was made to test the waters for a SF comeback, and it tanked in sales.

Which is a shame, a new SF game on current hardware would be a joy to behold. Ah well, I'll have to grab the SFA compilation at some point.

Isn't yet another rerelease of SF3 Alpha 10 times more likely?

The best chance we have at the moment is the fact that Sammy is trying to get the rights to make a Street Fighter game on the Atomiswave using the Guilty Gear engine. Considering that a large ammount of the old Street Fighter team works for them I hope this happens.

Until then I never have to worry about snapping up a copy of any Street FIghter game release I happen to see. If it disappears from shelves I can wait a few months and a new collection will be out.

A new Street Fighter game made by Sammy would inflict upon me more awesomeness than I could ever handle.

Okay first lets' get an actual, fair wide market release of SF3. Most people don't know the damn thing exists. It has one console release on xbox which is running close 3rd in the US and never had any real fanbase in japan. You call that a wide release? I want to see a SF3 cabinets as common as DDR machines in arcades, and SF3 for every console and portable out there.

SF2 was at one point that widely distributed. Until we see capcom actually TRY to get people to play the last game, I see no need for another.

Also while I'm at it. DHALSIM IS NOT CHEAP DAMN IT! That is all.

Capcom figured out that merchandising the Street Fighter characters actually made them more money than making new games.

I know I've spent more money on SF figures than I have on games. But that's because I am a pirate.

I think any new Street Fighter game has to move with the times. 2D is dead, 3D is the way forward baby. It has the chance to be innovative, with the third dimension, characters would be able to dodge INTO and OUT OF the screen, surely a marked gameplay improvement over what we have now.

Also, 3D will allow for interaction with environments, down platforms, through scenery, you name it. Players should be even killed with special scenery, like giant fans! And Pit spikes!

Also, evil characters of every character should be mad, and be called Devil (Devil Chun-li, Devil Dalshim being even cheesier than Dalshim!) Oh, and throw in some animals like bears too. Everyone like beating up bears. Ooh, or even Dinosaurs! Yeah, beat up dinosaurs! Oh, and add real fighting styles, like Drunken Boxing, with projectile vomit with the hadoken move. Oh, and make half the cast women, with huge breasts that wobble a lot. Actually make all the cast women, even Ken and Ryu... who should be called uh, Ken-chan and Ryu-chan.

Yeah, that would be the greatest game ever, I should work for Capcom. ;)

So, so true. I love Sota Street Fighter (esp Fei Long) and I have all of them including Gouken.

I have been playing Alpha Anthology quite a bit and if SF4 comes out I hope Fei Long will be part of the lineup. Really enjoy playing that guy.

Shin Gouki failed the reading comprehension part of the test. Everybody laugh at him so he feels motivated to improve.
