After reading this topic, if I EVER get the chance to grab a treasure hunt car before a collector get to it, I will take it. Then I will let the guy follow me around. Then i will throw the car onto the highest platform in the store

It's these kind of collectors that piss me off. I go to the store after work, or on weekends, and if they have a TF I want, then yay!
If I see a kid with the "ultra limited edition" toy that I want. Ya know, I really hope that kid plays with that toy until it's broken! Toys were meant for kids to play with.
I always let kids look at the toys before I do. If a kid and his Mom are looking at the TF's, I'll just look at the hotwheels or whatever else is in that isle until they are done, missing a chance to buy a toy isn't the end of the world.

I have a story to tell about a crazy collector....Me

I just got the last Armada Optimus Prime(clearence) that my wal-mart had. I had picked it up and was heding to the checkout. A mother and her 9year old son asked Me where I found it. I told them that this was the last one. The Mother explained that her son really wanted it, but she couldn't afford it until it went on clearence. I thought about it for a second, and gave it to them.

A week later I went to a diffrent town and found it onclearence for cheeper that I had previously found it.

haha i have yet to encounter crazy hw collectors doing more than the creepy peg display scavenging.

i do have a total collector bs story though

the mailbox store i do all my ebay shipping through, anytime im out of boxes and the guy actually sees what im shipping, i get to hear about how he has a bunch of transformers. But not like this, these are the originals! still in their boxes! every freaking time! and he will talk about random non existant transformers the whole time hes packing my stuff....

i do run into one guy from time to time in my searching, maybe a total of three times. He is a transformer collector too and he always talks my ear off if he notices im looking at transformers. Usually he starts by talking about all the new toys that dont exist that he has good sources telling him they will be released. Like the classics prime and magnus trailers. But the whole time he talks hes rearranging every toy in the aisle so that all of them are symmetrically aligned on the pegs. Like equal numbers on each peg. It's kind of fun to watch

I guess I just don't understand why people just blatantly lie about such things. Do they think it makes them cool to utter a complete fabrication?

    Great thread peeps.

I've never run into a crazy collector. I don't think anyone collects Hot Wheels in this country.

    Define collecting.

I buy them when I see the occasional cool car, but that's about it.

I haven't purchased a HW car since I was about 8. But now I might get the HW aisle to find a TH, crap for $1 that isn't bad. Then just sell it later :p

Some of the new 2007 HW's do look nice. I've always liked Grand Nationals, I may just have to grab that one.

They might not think it's lies. I knew a guy in junior high who used to engage in similar tall tales. Not about Transformers but stuff that was just too fantastic to ever happen anywhere outside his head. And he sincerly believed every silable of bullshit that passed his lips was the truth.

I wish I had a crazy collector story, but I don't. :redface2:  My borther told me he once saw two ghetto mamas get into it over a tickle me Elmo. The closets I can come is the assorted tales of the comic shop I went to as a teen. Nice people ran the place (in a real slum of a building though), they'd let you have a pile of loot. If you signed up. They'd put comics (new and old), toys, and anyother thing they had on hold for no money down. Now since it required no deposit people abused it. Like this one guy. He was special needs in some way, don't know if he was a few bricks short of a load or just deaf. But he couldn't talk right, and was a star trek nut. About once a month to add new stuff to his pile and check on the existing stuff he'd pop by. But since he had a speach problem what would be a 5 minute exchange for us took 15 minutes. And the real kicker is that he'd never buy anything. He had this couple hundred dollar pile of stuff and he'd never buy more than 1 thing, infrequently at that. Then when he left the guy who worked the counter would go into a 5 minute tirad about him, if there was no one he didn't know in the store. Peppered with every insult known to man.

Best story bro...good for you...apparently we TF collectors do have more class than HW collectors do...I never knew HW people were this bad or knew of TH cars...then again most times I stop into the stores are after work so I never see these early morning runs...sounds like fun though...

Lets see... since I work overnights at WM I've had to deal with some dumbass collectors and the occasional HW collector (BUT the ones I got are actually nice and respectful... the asshat ones were banned for harassing the O/N Stockers).

    Heres some of my warstories

*When I was just 7yrs old there was a KB Toys in the local mall. Around Christmas my parents took me and my sister shopping for presents. My mom and I hit KB to find a present for my sister. Mom was looking in the boardgame isle and I was hitting the boy toys section looking at Transformers, Ghostbusters, and the first run of TMNT figs that just hit the stores. On the other side of the isle was a nice display of Cabbage Patch Kids and I got to looking at one and though if my sister would like it. Next think I know im shoved aside into a LazerTag display as a horde of grandmas storm in and start disecting the CPKs. My mother happend to see this and went into a unholy rage the likes the Hulk would be jeleous of. She bitched out the trio of grannies that ran me down (1 was in tears and the other 2 coulldnt get a word in) until the mall rent-a-cops came in . The KB manager had all of us escorted out of the store and the mallcops took the old ladies away. I was never so proud of my mom (that was until she did the same thing to my school teachers a few years later... long story short never piss my mom off when she knows for damn sure she's right)

*I was working in Housewares one night when i found a stash of RotC figs in the coffee maker section, mostly clone troopers and some of the battle droids. I put them back and went back to work. After my lunch break I found the coffee maker section a mess. One of my co-workers said some irate gentleman was pulling the boxes off looking for something. The asshat never even bothered to look IN THE ISLE for the figs :lol

*I keep getting stupid people asking me when new movies are comming out.... while they are still playing in the theater. On more than 3 occasions Ive had to get a freakin copy of the paper and show them that its still in theaters before they actually beleave me.

*Everyday for 3 weeks a irate woman kept comming into electronics and asking me if there were any Wii's in the back. Our policy is if we have it we put it out (unless streetdated). We had 5 cases but they were streetdated for the end of the month for our ads. A week before the streetdate (this was around easter or so) she demanded that I get one out for her, saying someone on days admited that we had them.

I broke down... and told her to fuck off and come back on the following sunday at 8am and wait with the other 30 people that will be comming in for a chance to get one of the 15 Wii's we had. She got pissed and threatend to get management on me as she scoffed off. She did tattled on me and my bosses did nothing. Apparently she tried to pull something similar to this on my day off and low and behold one of my bosses had covered my deparment that night.
