If not for online piracy, I'd be hundreds of dollars poorer.

AOTS on G4 had something about this a couple months ago. One of the supposed bans was being able to disable people's ISPs if they're found downloading anything illegally. I don't believe anything came of it.

Same. And I've just torrented subbed anime and really old comics. The exposure of which has encouraged me to buy tons of merchandise.

If some crazy law like this gets passed, I can foresee companies like Marvel and Bandai taking huge hits. We can't afford $20 trades or box sets now, so what makes them think we can in the near future? What's going to compel us to buy $20-$50 action figures based on their characters then?

The people shouting the loudest and are against piracy are mostly the Music Business. And really... I even don't want to pirate the music they produce. No one buys their music because it is just shit. I buy my music and my music is not made by the Music Industry. Go and figure.

People don't really need to get so up in arms over it though. I've seen bills like this come up at least two other times and they didn't come anywhere close to passing.

It's never gonna happen. The people in Congress aren't that moronic.

Honestly, I don't think it would (or will) pass. If it did...let's just say a certain Internet activist group would "fix" that problem. *cough*Anonymous*cough*

I'd say something about this quote, but then we'd be going into politics, and the mods wouldn't be happy campers about it. So I'm going to keep it to myself. :p

The way MPAA and RIAA fight for this bill makes me wonder if there is a legal avenue to buy movies and music without having my money go into their greedy coffers.

Well I suck at talking politics anyway.

All I'm saying is that if we worried about every half-assed bill like this that ever got proposed to Congress, we'd never have time for anything else.

Don't want it to happen? Call your congressperson. Tell them you don't want them to support the bill. Tell them you will actively support their incumbents in primaries and the federal election if they do. Do the same for your senator. Get your friends to do the same.

This is a political issue, so use political methods rather than posts on a collectors forum.

Granted, a good segment of the membership is too young to vote...

Living in canada does not protect you from Piracy. 5-6 Years ago I was apart of several groups who released things to the internet (movies, console games, music) I have friends from the next city over who were apart of the same group who got busted due to the crackdown of a topsite and they woke up with guns pointed at their faces and all of the equiptment siezed. I decided it was time to get out of that scene while I could and not look back.
